Hourly Pay:
$40/hr.
The Senior Building Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and optimization of building systems within a 500,000 square-foot Class A medical office campus. This hands-on position supports HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and building automation systems while delivering excellent service to tenants and maintaining a safe, reliable environment. This position offers a unique opportunity for professional growth through direct mentorship from the Chief Engineer and participation in the campus' long-term succession planning. The successful candidate will gain exposure to central plant operations, building automation systems, capital projects, and leadership responsibilities with the potential to advance into a senior leadership role.
What you will be doing:
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety systems. Assist with operation and maintenance of central plant equipment including chillers, steam boilers, pumps, air handlers, VAVs, exhaust systems, and building controls. Respond to tenant service requests, diagnose building issues, and perform repairs in a timely manner. Utilize the Building Management System (BMS) to monitor and optimize equipment performance and occupant comfort. Complete preventive maintenance and corrective repairs using the CMMS work order system. Perform systematic troubleshooting and root cause analysis of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and control systems while assessing operational, tenant, and life-safety impacts. Troubleshoot electrical systems, lighting, motors, control circuits, and emergency power equipment. Investigate and repair plumbing issues including leaks, fixtures, domestic water systems, and drainage systems. Perform and document required in-house fire alarm, sprinkler, and other regulatory inspections. Coordinate and oversee contractors performing maintenance, repairs, and capital projects. Participate in on-call coverage and respond to building emergencies as needed. What experience we are looking for: 5+ years of commercial building maintenance experience, preferably in medical office, healthcare, laboratory, or Class A office facilities. Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems. Experience with commercial HVAC systems required. Exposure to central chiller plants, steam boilers, and building automation systems preferred. Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and CMMS platforms. Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation. Strong troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills. Demonstrated initiative, professionalism, and desire to grow into expanded technical and leadership responsibilities. EPA 608 Certification preferred. Article 28 healthcare facility experience preferred. NYS Petroleum Bulk Storage Operator Certification or ability to obtain preferred. Valid driver's license and ability to participate in an on-call rotation.
