It is well suited to an electrical engineer looking to deepen utility-distribution expertise while pursuing a path towards long-term employment. Overview Our customer is seeking a Power Distribution Engineer to support utility distribution engineering projects involving overhead and underground electrical systems ranging from 4kV to 35kV. The engineer will contribute to electrical distribution design, power-system studies, construction-package development, cost estimating, and coordination with utilities, municipalities, permitting agencies, field personnel, and other project stakeholders. The role is geared towards a junior-to-mid-level electrical engineer with existing utility or electrical distribution design experience who wants to continue developing a career in electric utility infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Develop engineering designs for overhead and underground electrical distribution systems ranging from 4kV to 35kV. Perform power-system studies, including load-flow analysis, short-circuit studies, and protection-coordination studies. Prepare construction drawings and design packages, material lists, and project cost estimates. Support electric utility distribution programs involving system reliability improvements, utility modernization, grid expansion, new services, and infrastructure upgrades. Ensure engineering designs comply with applicable NESC, IEEE, and client-specific standards. Incorporate safety, reliability, and constructability considerations into engineering designs. Coordinate with project managers, field personnel, utility clients, municipalities, permitting agencies, regulatory organizations, and other project stakeholders. Support permitting and regulatory requirements throughout project execution. Use power-system modelling and analysis software such as CYME or comparable tools. Maintain accurate engineering documentation and project records. Support delivery of assigned projects in accordance with schedule and budget requirements. All other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. 2+ years of experience in utility engineering or electrical distribution design. Experience designing or supporting both overhead and underground electrical distribution systems. Experience with power-system studies, including: Load-flow analysis Short-circuit analysis Protection-coordination studies Strong understanding of power systems, protective devices, and utility construction practices. Experience with power-system modelling or analysis software such as
CYME, ETAP, PSS
®E, or similar tools. Experience developing construction drawings or design packages, material lists/packages, and cost estimates. Ability to coordinate effectively with project teams and stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification. Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one. Familiarity with NESC and IEEE standards. Previous utility-client project experience. Experience coordinating directly with municipalities, permitting agencies, or regulatory organizations. Strong communication and project-coordination skills.
