Job Description

Position Summary Support the design, analysis, and implementation of electrical substation projects, including transmission and distribution systems. This role provides hands-on experience in substation design, protection and control systems, and field commissioning activities under the guidance of senior engineers. Key Duties and Responsibilities Assist in the design and development of electrical substations, including one-line diagrams, grounding systems, and physical layouts. Support engineering tasks related to transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and protective relay systems. Perform basic power system studies such as load flow, short circuit, and arc flash analysis using tools like ETAP, SKM, or similar software. Assist with protection and control design, including relay settings, SCADA integration, and communication systems. Support relay coordination studies and assist with configuring protection relays (e.g., SEL, GE Multilin). Help develop design drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications. Participate in field activities such as substation commissioning, equipment testing, inspections, and troubleshooting. Assist with equipment energization, relay testing, and functional verification of protection schemes. Ensure compliance with applicable industry codes and standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE, NFPA, OSHA, and utility standards). Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, and control engineers. Support project execution by assisting with scopes of work, cost estimates, and scheduling. Communicate effectively with team members, field personnel, and supervisors regarding technical progress and issues. Participate in continuous improvement and maintain a strong focus on safety and quality. Position Requirements Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university 0-2 years of relevant experience (internships or co-ops in power systems or substations preferred) Basic understanding of power systems and substation components Familiarity with engineering tools such as AutoCAD, ETAP, or SKM is a plus Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and in a team environment Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification or ability to obtain preferred Preferred Skills (Nice to Have) Exposure to substation protection and control systems Familiarity with relay logic, SCADA systems, or communication protocols (DNP3, IEC 61850) Internship experience with utilities, EPC firms, or substation design projects Basic knowledge of grounding design and lightning protection Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future. Pay:
$80,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
