Position Overview CARIAN is seeking a DER Integration Engineer to support grid modernization and electrification initiatives for a major electric utility client in New Jersey. This role contributes to the evaluation, planning, and integration of distributed energy resources (DER), EV infrastructure, battery storage technologies, and grid-interactive customer solutions across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. The position supports distribution planning activities, pilot program development, and scalable deployment strategies aligned with evolving electrification and grid modernization priorities. Key Responsibilities Support evaluation and integration of distributed energy resources including battery energy storage systems, EV charging infrastructure, and grid-interactive technologies Contribute to distribution system planning efforts supporting DER adoption and electrification initiatives Assist with technical analysis related to renewable integration and feeder-level system impacts Perform modeling and scenario analysis using tools such as CYME and Excel-based planning workflows Support implementation of electrification programs across residential, commercial, and industrial customers Coordinate with planning, regulatory, engineering, and customer program stakeholders Assist with vendor coordination and technical review activities supporting pilot deployments Prepare technical materials supporting regulatory filings, stakeholder engagement, and executive briefings Support development of scalable strategies aligned with grid modernization objectives Participate in coordination activities with customers, municipalities, and external partners supporting electrification programs
Qualifications Experience Level:
3-10 years Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related discipline Experience supporting electric utility engineering, distribution planning, DER integration, or grid modernization initiatives Familiarity with distributed energy resources including solar, battery storage, EV infrastructure, or grid-interactive technologies Experience using distribution system modeling tools (CYME preferred) Exposure to DER interconnection processes, electrification programs, or renewable integration studies Working knowledge of utility regulatory frameworks supporting DER deployment Strong written and verbal communication skills supporting cross-functional collaboration Experience supporting investor-owned utilities preferred Preferred Master's degree in Power Systems, Renewable Energy, or related discipline Experience supporting hosting capacity analysis or feeder-level planning studies Exposure to transportation electrification or virtual power plant initiatives Prior experience supporting utilities in the Northeast region Why CARIAN Purpose-driven work

Compensation The base salary range for this role is $90,000
  • $125,000 annually.
This range represents a good-faith estimate at the time of posting; actual compensation will depend on experience, qualifications, and other factors permitted by law. In addition to base salary, the role includes eligibility for bonus incentives, a comprehensive benefits package, and a company 401(k) match.
