Principal Engineer Substation Westinghouse Electric Company 401(k) United States, Massachusetts, Canton 150 Royall St (Show on map) May 09, 2026 About the role: We're looking for a Principal Engineer - Substation on behalf of our client. This is a 1-year contract assignment.(W-2) The Engineering & Construction Team is looking for a Principal Engineer - Substation to join their team. You will work with project engineering resources, work plans and lines of demarcation. You will ensure projects are, cost effectively and safely implemented in accordance with department process, procedures, industry standards and policies. You will coordinate with other project stakeholders to develop and secure a substation site, support any engineering updates, data and permits necessary to design and build the substation. You will report to the onsite manager.

Key Responsibilities:
All assigned substation projects for
FERC 1000
RFP's and Early Stage Diligence Projects. In the conceptual phase, you will work with the Early-Stage Project Manager to support the engineering requirements and scope with the Development Group. Training of external engineers of record (EOR) for all assigned substation projects involves due diligence and technical oversight.
  • Securing engineering consulting resources from a list of approved suppliers by developing a scope of work, securing bids, evaluating, and awarding work through the Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) Group.
  • Support the RFP / Diligence effort
  • Competitively source, select and contracting geotechnical, survey, engineering, and construction services, and supporting the E&C Cost Estimating Team with scope assumptions.
  • Manage all project long lead major material orders to minimize risk of delays or exceeding the project budget. Assist ISC with all substation project SOW creation, review, approval, and preparation of shopping carts for engineering services and materials in a timely manner.
  • Support E&C Estimating with template update via project feedback, technical support, and scope modifications.
  • Support technical RFP narrative development.
Qualifications:
We prefer a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil/Structural Engineering. 7+ years experience in Substation design and engineering of High Voltage substation projects
  • HVDC experience is helpful.
  • Project Engineering and Project Management experience.
  • PMP or P.E. in related discipline is helpful.
  • Some travel required within North America.
