Relay Engineer Job Description A relay engineer plays a critical role in protecting the electric power system, ensuring service safety and reliability. Conduct root-cause analysis for major outages, equipment damage, and repeated feeder issues. Ensure compliance with internal engineering standards, safety practices, and regional reliability requirements. Support relay testing and commissioning of new substations or feeders, reviewing test results and approving settings. Provide technical support during major storms or system events, assist with restoration prioritization, and recommend protection changes. Essential Skills Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology. 5-10 years of experience in utility relay and protection systems. Knowledge of utility power systems operation, substation and transmission protective relaying design, relay testing, and protective coordination.
