Job Description
An established engineering consultancy is looking to bring an experienced Consulting Engineer into its team. The role sits within a technically focused group working on a mix of new design, investigation work, and repair of existing buildings.
The work is varied and hands-on. You'll be involved from early investigation through to design and construction support, often spending time on site as well as in the office. Projects range from small, focused commissions to more complex schemes that require coordination across teams and close interaction with clients.
The RoleYou'll typically take responsibility for small to medium-sized projects and support senior staff on larger or more technically challenging work. Depending on workload, this could mean running a single substantial project or overseeing several smaller ones at once, including supervising junior engineers.
Typical Work Will IncludeSupporting senior engineers with investigations, design work, and site inspectionsAssessing existing buildings and identifying the causes of building envelope failuresDeveloping practical repair solutions for walls, roofs, glazing, and waterproofing systemsWorking with architects and contractors to resolve design and construction issuesCarrying out site-based investigations, including sampling and testing of envelope components such as:
Cladding systemsWindows and curtain wallsRoofing and skylightsPlaza decks, flooring, and below-grade waterproofingUndertaking water ingress testing and condition surveysProducing repair designs and technical documentationAssisting with construction-stage queries and site visitsReviewing drawings and specifications prepared by othersProviding guidance and informal mentoring to less experienced staffSupporting dispute resolution or litigation-related work where requiredWhat the Firm Is Looking ForA degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Architectural EngineeringAround five years or more of relevant industry experienceChartered status, or equivalent professional registration (P.E. or R.A.)Someone comfortable working both independently and as part of a teamGood organisational skills and the ability to manage deadlinesClear written and verbal communicationSolid computer skills, including technical and graphical outputsExperience in façade or curtain wall design, historic buildings, rope access/climbing, or client-facing technical presentations would be useful but isn't a requirement.
