Job Description

Senior Transmission Line EngineerFull-Time | U.S.-Based (Multiple Locations & Remote work)Position OverviewThe Senior Transmission Line Engineer plays a key role in the design, engineering, and delivery of high-voltage transmission line projects ranging from 69kV to 500kV. This individual is responsible for leading complex design efforts, preparing construction-ready documentation, performing detailed engineering calculations, and supporting projects through design, construction, and closeout.

The role requires strong expertise in transmission line design tools and industry standards, along with the ability to work independently, support QA/QC processes, and collaborate across engineering, project management, and construction teams.

Key ResponsibilitiesTransmission Line Design & EngineeringLead preliminary and detailed design of large, complex overhead transmission line projectsPrepare engineering calculations to ensure safety, reliability, and regulatory complianceDevelop construction drawings, plan & profile sheets, and full design packagesCreate structure framing details, grounding details, and bills of materialPerform foundation design and analysis for wood, steel, and concrete structuresDevelop structure lists, staking tables, stringing charts, and construction instructionsPrepare equipment and material specifications and support procurement activitiesSoftware & Technical ToolsPerform detailed design using PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, PLS-TowerUtilize foundation and structural analysis tools (e.g., MFAD, LPILE - preferred)Support development of accurate quantity takeoffs and cost estimatesQA/QC & Standards ComplianceSupport and participate in QA/QC reviews prior to internal or external submittalsEnsure designs comply with applicable safety codes, utility standards, and industry practicesMaintain working knowledge of applicable transmission and construction codesConstruction & Field SupportProvide engineering support during construction to address field conditions and design changesInterpret plans and specifications to ensure design intent is maintainedConduct site visits, investigations, and field reviews as requiredReview contractor submittals, invoices, and installed materials for complianceProject & Client SupportServe as Project Engineer or support project management efforts as assignedPrepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and engineering documentationSupport coordination between engineering, construction, and project stakeholdersParticipate in technical discussions with clients and project teamsLeadership & Professional DevelopmentProvide guidance and technical direction to designers and techniciansSupport training and professional development efforts within the engineering groupStay current with emerging technologies, tools, and industry best practicesPosition CharacteristicsSelf-motivated professional capable of working independentlyStrong technical leadership and problem-solving skillsOrganized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple prioritiesClear communicator with strong written and verbal skillsQuality-driven mindset with a focus on constructability and accuracyAdaptable to varying project requirements and design standardsQualificationsEducationBachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited programFE/EIT preferredExperience8-10+ years of experience in transmission line engineeringProven experience with high-voltage transmission line design projectsTechnical SkillsStrong knowledge of transmission line design principles and construction practicesExperience with industry codes and standards (e.g., utility standards, safety codes, IEEE)Proficiency with engineering design software and CADD toolsStrong analytical, technical writing, and project coordination skills
