Job Description

Job Title:
Transmission Line Engineer (Remote - Florida) Job Description This role sits within the transmission department and focuses on the engineering and design of transmission line projects that support utility customers. The Transmission Line Engineer collaborates closely with senior engineers, in-house teams, and client engineers and designers to deliver end-to-end project solutions. The position involves performing detailed engineering analysis, preparing construction documentation, coordinating with contractors and regulatory agencies, and contributing to safe and timely project execution. Responsibilities Perform engineering and design activities for transmission line projects, including engineering analysis, route selection, structural and foundation design, material acquisition, and project and construction management. Prepare comprehensive project construction documents such as plan and profile drawings, design drawings, engineering specifications, material and construction specifications, project schedules, and bills of material. Develop multiple project design alternatives and prepare corresponding cost estimates to support decision-making. Design new transmission facilities with voltage levels ranging from 12 kV to 765 kV, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations. Utilize
PLS-CADD
to model and analyze transmission line design projects and ensure accurate and efficient design solutions. Conduct contractor bid meetings and construction meetings, and assist in ensuring that work activities are performed safely, in accordance with plans and schedules, and in compliance with internal policies, rules, standards, and external regulations. Coordinate effectively with governmental and regulatory agencies and contractors to secure necessary project permits and approvals. Provide leadership to facilitate timely project completion, including mentoring and training other engineers and contributing to the development of measurable work area goals and objectives. Function as a project lead for transmission projects, overseeing technical execution and coordination of project tasks. Coordinate work activities of other team members within the work group and department to ensure successful completion of transmission projects. Provide training, coaching, and guidance to lower-level employees to support their technical development and performance. Initiate corrective actions when substation-related project objectives or milestones are not being met, working to resolve issues and keep projects on track. Work under the supervision of higher-level engineers while progressively taking on greater responsibility for project tasks and deliverables. Conduct occasional site visits to support design validation, construction activities, and field coordination. Essential Skills Two to five years of experience in utilities working with transmission line design. Two to five years of experience completing engineering projects from start to finish. Two to five years of experience scoping, estimating, and ordering materials for transmission line projects. Proficiency in transmission line design using
PLS-CADD.
Experience using MicroStation for engineering and design activities. Experience using AutoCAD for engineering and design activities. Strong understanding of engineering principles related to transmission line structures, foundations, and routing. Ability to prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documentation. Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders, including engineers, designers, contractors, and regulatory agencies. Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, with the degree counting toward overall experience. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Effective written and verbal communication skills to participate in meetings, prepare documentation, and provide guidance to others. Additional Skills & Qualifications Engineer-in-Training (EIT) license is desirable but not required. Experience leading or coordinating project teams in a utility or transmission environment. Experience participating in contractor bid and construction meetings. Experience working within established engineering standards, policies, and regulatory requirements. Demonstrated ability to mentor and train junior engineers or designers. Ability to develop project design alternatives and associated cost estimates. Comfort with occasional travel for site visits. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to initiate corrective actions when project objectives are at risk. Work Environment The role is fully remote based in Florida, will require some visits to client as needed. This position is often paired with a more experienced designer to encourage collaboration and on-the-job learning. Teamwork is highly encouraged and occurs frequently, with close collaboration among engineers, designers, and other project stakeholders. Work is primarily design engineering based at home, with occasional site visits to support field activities and project needs. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Tampa, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
