This role will be responsible for developing engineering designs, relay protection schemes, RTU configurations, and
SCADA/EMS
integrations while supporting critical infrastructure projects from concept through commissioning. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of power system assets while collaborating with engineering, operations, construction, and utility stakeholders. Key ResponsibilitiesEngineering & Design Develop engineering drawings and design packages for substation protection and control systems. Design relay protection schemes for transmission, distribution, generation, and industrial substations. Prepare purchase requisitions and material requests for substation electrical equipment. Assist in developing equipment specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards. Perform grounding tests and support design calculations for new and existing substation grounding systems. Develop RTU drawings, RTU programming, and EMS/SCADA
database sheets. Support substation upgrades, expansions, and new construction projects. Project Leadership & Execution Serve as project lead for assigned projects, coordinating activities from design through implementation. Attend project meetings and monitor schedules to ensure milestones and in-service dates are achieved. Coordinate with internal stakeholders, contractors, consultants, and utility partners. Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting activities. Technical Support & Consulting Provide power system protection and control engineering expertise to internal departments and external utility partners. Support relay settings reviews, system studies, and operational control scheme evaluations. Assist with troubleshooting protection system issues and equipment performance concerns. Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards, utility requirements, and regulatory guidelines. Innovation & Continuous Improvement Research and evaluate new technologies, equipment, and design practices to improve system reliability, safety, and cost effectiveness. Collaborate with field personnel to gain practical knowledge of substation equipment and operational requirements. Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, design standards, and project execution methods. Standards & Documentation Review and update engineering specifications, design standards, material catalogs, and technical procedures. Maintain accurate engineering records and documentation within company systems and databases. Interface with equipment manufacturers and vendors to stay informed of emerging technologies and product enhancements. Participate in standards review meetings and support continuous improvement initiatives. QualificationsRequired Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university. Minimum of 8 years of direct relay protection and control engineering experience. Strong understanding of substation protection systems, relay schemes, and operational control systems. Experience with transmission, distribution, generation, or industrial substation projects. Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering software applications. Preferred Experience with SCADA, RTU
programming, EMS databases, and substation automation systems. Knowledge of grounding system design and testing. Familiarity with utility standards, NERC/FERC requirements, IEEE standards, and power system protection practices. Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure. Pay:
