We provide shop, engineering, and on-site services for critical power systems, including circuit breakers, switchgear and related components, maintenance, testing, parts, remanufacturing, and customer support.
Expectations:
IPS - National Switchgear is seeking a Commercial Engineer to support customer opportunities by developing technical and commercial proposals, reviewing specifications, estimating project costs, and partnering with sales, engineering, operations, and customers to deliver accurate, competitive solutions. This role requires strong technical aptitude, commercial awareness, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with internal teams and customers. The Commercial Engineer will help ensure proposals are complete, aligned with customer requirements, and positioned for successful execution after award.
Key Responsibilities Proposal Development:
Develop technical and commercial proposals for switchgear, circuit breakers, parts, services, and engineered solutions.
Scope Review:
Review customer specifications, drawings, RFQs, one-line diagrams, and project requirements to confirm scope and identify gaps.
Estimating and Pricing:
Prepare cost estimates, pricing inputs, bid documentation, and commercial summaries.
Risk and Clarifications:
Identify risks, exceptions, assumptions, clarifications, and commercial terms that may impact proposal accuracy or execution.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with sales, engineering, operations, procurement, production, and field service teams to develop complete customer solutions.
Customer Support:
Support customer calls, proposal reviews, technical discussions, and follow-up questions during the bid process.
Documentation:
Maintain proposal files, opportunity records, pricing support, and related documentation.
Project Handoff:
Support handoff of awarded projects to operations and execution teams to ensure scope, pricing, and customer requirements are clearly communicated.
Qualifications and Competencies:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred
8+ years of experience in estimating, engineering, sales support, proposals, project coordination, or commercial operations
Experience with electrical distribution equipment, switchgear, circuit breakers, or industrial services preferred
Ability to read and interpret specifications, drawings, one-line diagrams, and customer requirements
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify scope gaps, risks, and pricing considerations
Proficiency with Microsoft Office; ERP or CRM experience preferred
Ability to work effectively with customers, sales, engineering, operations, and leadership teams Preferred Qualifications Experience with LV/MV switchgear, breakers, power distribution equipment, or electrical services
Knowledge of margins, pricing, proposal development, and commercial risk
Customer-facing or sales support experience
Familiarity with manufacturing, remanufacturing, field service, or electrical equipment repair environments
Understanding of industry standards related to electrical distribution equipment preferred
