Job Description

Akkodis is seeking an experienced Substation Engineering professional to lead the planning, design, analysis, and delivery of electrical power system projects, with a focus on substations and system protection. (Candidates must possess their P.E. for consideration for this role.) This role plays a critical part in supporting organizational objectives by providing technical expertise in power system design, construction oversight, protection studies, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will manage complex projects from concept through implementation while serving as a technical resource and mentor to engineering staff.
Salary Range:
$120,000-150,000/Annually + Benefits +
Bonus Responsibilities:
Develop and evaluate designs for electrical power system infrastructure, including substation facilities and protection schemes. Utilize engineering software and analytical tools to perform technical studies, system evaluations, and design calculations. Create and review engineering documents, construction packages, technical specifications, drawings, reports, and maps to ensure alignment with applicable standards and project requirements. Conduct power system analyses, fault studies, and relay coordination activities for transformers, distribution feeders, and transmission facilities. Lead the execution of large-scale substation projects, overseeing project scope, schedule, budget, and overall quality. Coordinate engineering efforts with internal teams, consultants, developers, members, contractors, and governmental agencies. Provide technical recommendations regarding system improvements, equipment selection, design modifications, and operational enhancements. Prepare material and equipment specifications and support procurement activities, including review of manufacturer drawings and long-lead equipment submittals.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or a closely related discipline. Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license Minimum of eight years of relevant experience in electrical power systems, substation engineering, or a related field. Valid driver's license. Demonstrated experience managing engineering projects with limited supervision. Strong understanding of substation design, construction practices, and power system protection principles. Preferred Qualifications Experience working within electric utility, cooperative, transmission, or distribution environments. Familiarity with regulatory and reliability compliance requirements, including NERC protection and control standards. Experience serving as a technical lead or mentor for engineering teams. Proficiency with engineering software, design applications, and technical analysis tools, including platforms such as AutoCAD and ASPEN. Extensive knowledge of electrical power system components, materials, and infrastructure. Ability to interpret and develop electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and technical documentation. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to evaluate complex technical issues and develop practical solutions. Effective project management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines.
