Job Description

Electrical Engineer - Power Systems & Battery Energy Storage (BESS) Jelec Energies | Katy, TX (Houston Area)
Job Type:
Full-Time | On-Site Help Build the Future of Power Infrastructure At Jelec, we're engineering power solutions for some of the world's most demanding applications, including AI data centers, advanced battery energy storage systems (BESS), industrial power conversion, and distributed power generation. As the demand for AI computing and reliable electrical infrastructure accelerates, we're developing innovative energy storage and power conversion technologies that address the challenges of high-power applications, rapid load fluctuations, and grid stability. We're looking for a technically driven Electrical Engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, takes ownership of projects, and wants to see their designs become real, working equipment. This is not a position where you'll spend your career reviewing drawings from behind a desk. You'll have the opportunity to participate in the full engineering lifecycle—from conceptual design and equipment selection to manufacturing, testing, and commissioning. If you're passionate about electrical power systems and want to work on technology that is shaping the future of AI data centers and energy infrastructure, we'd like to hear from you. What You'll Do Design and develop electrical systems for high-power battery energy storage, power conversion, and power generation applications. Engineer integrated BESS solutions for AI data centers, microgrids, industrial facilities, and other demanding applications. Develop electrical architectures, single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment specifications. Integrate power conversion systems (PCS), bidirectional inverters, active front ends (AFE), transformers, switchgear, and battery systems. Design and evaluate AC and DC power distribution systems, including high-voltage DC applications. Perform engineering calculations involving electrical loads, equipment sizing, protection, grounding, and system performance. Collaborate with controls engineers to integrate battery management systems (BMS), PLCs, and energy management systems. Work directly with our manufacturing and engineering teams to turn electrical designs into functional equipment. Participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT), system troubleshooting, and commissioning. Evaluate new technologies and develop innovative approaches to complex power management challenges. Work with customers and internal technical teams to define requirements and deliver practical engineering solutions. What We're Looking For Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. Minimum of 5 years of professional electrical engineering experience. Strong understanding of three-phase electrical power systems and AC/DC electrical principles. Experience designing or integrating industrial electrical power equipment. Ability to develop and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical specifications. Familiarity with electrical protection, breakers, contactors, transformers, and industrial power distribution. Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and take technical ownership of assigned projects. Hands-on engineering mindset with an interest in seeing equipment designed, built, tested, and deployed. Highly Desirable Experience Candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas will receive strong consideration: Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and battery integration Power Conversion Systems (PCS), inverters, rectifiers, and active front ends Power electronics, VFDs, and high-power AC/DC conversion Power generation, generator controls, and microgrid integration Data center electrical power infrastructure and UPS systems Medium-voltage or high-voltage electrical distribution PLCs, SCADA, industrial controls, and power management systems Electrical system protection and coordination ETAP, SKM, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar engineering tools UL, IEEE, NEC, and NFPA electrical standards Industrial equipment testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting Direct BESS experience is a plus, but not mandatory. We are particularly interested in engineers with strong technical fundamentals in power systems, power conversion, or industrial power equipment who are excited to apply their skills to advanced energy storage technologies. Why Join Jelec? Work on Meaningful Technology Help develop power infrastructure supporting next-generation AI data centers, grid stability, and energy storage applications. Engineering Ownership Our engineers are involved throughout the project lifecycle. You'll have the opportunity to influence designs, solve real-world challenges, and see your work become operational equipment. Innovation and Technical Growth Work with advanced battery technologies, high-power conversion systems, and complex electrical architectures. We value curiosity, technical creativity, and engineers who enjoy pushing beyond conventional solutions. Direct Access to Manufacturing Work closely with the teams building and testing your designs, providing immediate feedback and opportunities for hands-on problem-solving.
Competitive Compensation Annual base salary:
$120,000-$160,000 Compensation based on demonstrated technical capabilities, relevant experience, and ability to independently execute complex engineering projects Medical insurance Dental insurance 401(k) retirement plan Paid time off (PTO) Who Will Succeed Here? We're looking for an engineer who genuinely enjoys engineering. Someone who is curious about how things work, comfortable tackling unfamiliar technical challenges, and motivated to find solutions. You might currently work in industrial power conversion, power generation, electrical equipment manufacturing, data center infrastructure, or energy storage. What matters most is your technical capability, practical engineering judgment, and desire to build innovative power systems. If you're looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful technical contribution to the rapidly evolving data center and energy storage industries, we encourage you to apply. Join Jelec and help engineer the next generation of electrical power infrastructure.
