  • $180,000 a year 3 days ago Qualifications Electrical design CAD software Bachelor's degree Electrical building codes Working on electrical projects Full Job Description We are seeking a High Voltage Substation Design Engineer with a strong background in substation physical design to support projects across renewable energy (solar, wind, BESS) and data center infrastructure .
This role will work on utility‑scale and mission‑critical projects requiring high reliability, constructable designs, and close coordination with clients, utilities, and multidisciplinary teams. Must be based in the US for considration. Key Responsibilities Lead and support high-voltage substations (typically 69kV-345kV) for renewable energy and data center projects
  • this includes providing SME duties, design/equipment recommendations, reviews, etc.
Review and help develop work of third party EORs/engineering firms including or related to plan & profile drawings, sections, elevations, and equipment arrangements Bring your design & review experience of grounding systems, bus/conductor layouts, foundations, raceways, and trenching in house to the owner/developer side. Prepare Bills of Material (BOMs) and equipment specifications and get exposure to other areas such as development, procurement, operations, construction. Interface with utilities, owners, EPCs, and data center clients to align on design requirements and standards Review vendor drawings and submittals for constructability and compliance Provide construction support , field walkdowns, and responses to RFIs as needed Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline 5+ years of experience in high-voltage substation physical design Hands-on experience with greenfield and/or brownfield substations Proficiency in AutoCAD (MicroStation experience a plus) Familiarity with
IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC
, and utility design standards Experience supporting renewable energy or data center projects strongly preferred Strong communication skills and ability to work in a fast‑paced, client‑facing environment Nice to Have/A Plus (but not required) PE license or ability to obtain (not required) Experience with bus force calculations, grounding studies, or constructability reviews Previous exposure to PV solar and/or BESS interconnections or mission‑critical/data center power infrastructure Why This Role Work on high-growth renewable energy and data center projects Blend of engineering rigor and practical, buildable design Collaborative team environment with high-impact, visible projects Opportunity to grow into technical leadership on complex HV substations
