Design and Analysis Engineer (Junior-Level / Intern) Job Description This role offers an excellent entry-level opportunity for an aspiring structural engineer to support pole services projects focused on streetlighting and telecommunications attachments. Over a 12-18 month period, you will receive structured training, work on projects of increasing complexity, and develop the technical and practical skills needed to transition into a full-time design and analysis engineer. You will contribute to the structural design of distribution and transmission poles, collaborate with customers, and help translate technical requirements into clear, actionable work plans. Responsibilities Support technical requirements related to structural engineering design for distribution and transmission poles. Apply CAD and AUD design fundamentals to develop detailed plans for streetlight, wireless, and wireline pole attachments. Collaborate with customers to define, clarify, and document pole attachment requirements for streetlights, wireless devices, and wireline cables. Analyze technical requirements and convert them into actionable make-ready work plans that support safe and compliant pole attachments. Work closely with the Pole Services team to ensure third-party attachments meet engineering standards and applicable joint-use codes. Assist experienced engineers with reviewing and updating design documents, drawings, and specifications related to pole attachments. Contribute to continuous improvement of design practices by learning and applying best practices in structural engineering and utility design. Essential Skills 0-1+ years of relevant experience with structural engineering design. Foundational understanding of structural engineering principles as applied to utility infrastructure. Comfort using CAD/AUD tools for design and drafting tasks. Ability to analyze technical requirements and translate them into practical design or work plan outputs. Strong attention to detail when preparing plans and documentation. Effective communication skills to collaborate with customers and internal engineering teams. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with Autodesk tools is a strong plus. Any prior experience or knowledge working with distribution or transmission poles is highly desirable. Familiarity with pole attachments for streetlights, wireless devices, and wireline cables is beneficial. Interest in working within the utility and power sector, particularly in distribution and transmission infrastructure. Motivation to grow into a permanent design and analysis engineering role. Ability to learn from and work alongside experienced engineers in a fast-paced project environment. Work Environment This position is 100% on-site, with the option to report to offices in Bothell, Bellevue, North Bend, Kent, or Puyallup. The role begins as a 12-month contract with the possibility of extension up to 18 months and potential conversion to a permanent position. The schedule is flexible, and if you are currently in school, you may work approximately 12-20 hours per week during the academic term, provided you attend in person. You will be part of the Pole Services team, which manages third-party attachments to utility-owned poles, including streetlights, wireless devices, and wireline cables, and ensures compliance with engineering standards and state joint-use codes. You will work alongside experienced engineers, use CAD/AUD and Autodesk tools in a professional office environment, and gain hands-on exposure to both streetlight and telecommunications attachment practices in a collaborative, growth-oriented setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Bothell, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
