    Role:
    As a Staff Product Development Engineer, Aerospace & Defense, you will own customer products from initial concept through serial production. Working as part of a cross-functional engineering team, you will help maximize the capabilities of VulcanForms? vertically integrated manufacturing operation and support the engineering processes that transform customer concepts into repeatable, qualified production programs. This senior technical individual-contributor role serves as the primary technical authority for assigned products. You will work across hardware, software, materials, additive manufacturing, post-processing, quality, and operations to deliver production-ready parts for strategic aerospace and defense customers.
    Key Responsibilities:
    • Partner with additive, post-processing, and quality engineers to develop part processes that maximize customer value
    • Evaluate early-stage opportunities for technical and manufacturing feasibility
    • Define New Product Introduction (NPI) paths with senior technical staff and establish clear technical expectations with program leads
    • Keep technical development activities on schedule and aligned with program objectives
    • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) principles from the beginning of each program
    • Collaborate with automation, machining, finishing, and external vendor teams to develop integrated manufacturing solutions
    • Support Quality Engineering in selecting and implementing metrology solutions for product qualification and production
    • Support production programs by helping parts move efficiently through the factory
    • Lead or support root-cause investigations for complex part defects
    • Use data analysis and iterative testing to develop and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
    • Support the technical execution of First Article Inspections (FAI) and production launches for the Aerospace & Defense business
    • Review and execute engineering change orders in response to customer design changes and internal KPI targets
    • Identify and implement improvements to product-development processes
    • Establish consistent, efficient methods for meeting customer requirements across development and production programs
    • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering team members
    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor?s degree in Mechanical, Materials, Aerospace, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical field
    • 6+ years of progressive, hands-on experience in product development, applications development, or a related engineering discipline
    • Experience with laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) or similar additive manufacturing technology preferred
    • Expert-level proficiency with advanced 3D CAD software, such as Siemens NX, Creo, or SolidWorks
    • Deep knowledge of GD&T, statistical process capability, tolerance stack-up analysis, and complex DFM/DfAM constraints
    • Strong working knowledge of subtractive manufacturing operations, including 5-axis milling, turning, and EDM
    • Understanding of how subtractive manufacturing operations integrate with additive manufacturing workflows
    • Outstanding leadership, communication, and stakeholder-management skills
    • Demonstrated ability to influence technical roadmaps and align multidisciplinary teams
