Job Title:
Product Engineer - Automotive Exterior Lighting Job Description This Product Engineer role focuses on automotive exterior lighting within a large Tier 1 automotive environment. You will drive product engineering activities across full vehicle program cycles, collaborate closely with customers and internal teams, and ensure that exterior lighting products meet performance, regulatory, and quality requirements from feasibility through launch. Responsibilities Lead product engineering activities for automotive exterior lighting components throughout the full program lifecycle, from feasibility studies to production launch. Serve as a key member of the product development team, providing technical direction, resolving issues, and ensuring that engineering deliverables meet program milestones. Interface directly with customers and internal stakeholders to understand requirements, present design solutions, and address technical and program-related questions. Collaborate with cross-functional groups such as Manufacturing, Design, and other internal teams to manage and track the progression of product development. Use 3D CAD tools such as CATIA and NX to review designs, assess feasibility, and support activities such as sample cuts and design refinements. Apply a basic understanding of CAE tools and principles to support design decisions and product validation activities. Create, review, and deliver required technical documentation and project deliverables in line with customer and program requirements. Ensure that exterior lighting designs comply with global automotive lighting regulations and internal standards. Support program management activities by contributing to planning, risk identification, and issue resolution related to product engineering. Participate in design and technical reviews, providing clear feedback and recommendations to improve product performance, manufacturability, and quality. Essential Skills Minimum of 3 years of experience as a product engineer with a specialization in automotive exterior lighting. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience. Hands-on experience with 3D CAD software such as CATIA and NX, including the ability to review designs and support sample preparation. Completion of at least 2 full automotive program cycles, including feasibility and launch phases. Proven customer interface experience, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external management. Experience as a key member of a product development team, providing direction and resolving engineering issues. Demonstrated ability to work with multiple internal groups, such as Manufacturing and Design, to coordinate and progress product development. Basic understanding of CAE tools and engineering principles relevant to product design and validation. Experience in creating, reviewing, and delivering required technical and project documentation. Knowledge of global automotive lighting regulations and their application to exterior lighting design. Additional Skills & Qualifications in automotive lighting product engineering within a Tier 1 supplier or similar environment. Experience in program management or close collaboration with program management teams. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and customers. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities within complex, multi-stakeholder development programs. Work Environment You will work in a clean, large R D technical office environment focused on advanced automotive product development. The role follows a hybrid work model with three days in the office and two days remote each week, with flexibility in scheduling, except that Monday and Friday cannot both be remote in the same week. You will use modern engineering tools and technologies, including 3D CAD platforms such as CATIA and NX, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in a professional, engineering-driven setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Novi, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $60.00/hr.
