Development:
Engineer brake system components and subsystems, including brake calipers, rotors, hoses, lines, and actuation systems. Support the development, NVH, and validation of these components to meet performance, durability, and safety targets.
Validation and Testing:
Lead and support validation activities at both supplier and OEM levels, including component, subsystem, and vehicle testing. Define and execute DVP&R plans, ensuring alignment with program requirements and performance targets.
Supplier Coordination:
Interface with suppliers to define test requirements, review validation plans, and ensure components meet structural, performance, and durability requirements. Support supplier test execution and review data for compliance.
Test Planning and Execution:
Develop detailed test plans and procedures for brake components and systems, including bench, dynamometer, environmental, and vehicle-level testing. Coordinate testing activities and ensure timely completion of validation milestones.
Data Analysis and Issue Resolution:
Analyze test data to evaluate performance, identify root causes of issues, and drive corrective actions. Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to resolve technical concerns and improve product robustness.
Technical Excellence:
Uphold engineering excellence by ensuring robust validation methodologies and high-quality test execution. Contribute to continuous improvement of brake system performance and durability.
Engineering Improvements:
Critically review test results, validation strategies, and system performance, proposing improvements to designs, specifications, and validation approaches.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including vehicle dynamics, controls, manufacturing, quality, and supplier development, to ensure robust brake system performance.
Solution Development:
Partner with system architecture and design teams to resolve performance, durability, and integration challenges through data-driven solutions.
Prototype and Serial Development:
Support prototype builds and serial production readiness, including test execution, issue tracking, and validation sign-off.
Additional Tasks:
Participate in other related tasks and activities as required.
Location & Travel Expectations :
This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Novi, Michigan. This role requires 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events. Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time. Educational Background:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Technology, or Engineering Technology.
Experience:
8+ years of experience in brake system development, validation, or testing within an OEM or Tier-1 environment, including supplier and vehicle-level validation. Experience with SUV or truck platforms is preferred.
Technical Skills:
Strong understanding of brake systems and component-level behavior. Experience with validation planning (DVP&R), NVH testing, test execution, data acquisition, and analysis. Familiarity with brake performance testing, durability testing, and environmental validation.
Project Management:
Proven ability to manage validation activities, including test planning, timing, deliverables, and issue resolution aligned with vehicle program milestones.
Motivation and Innovation:
Highly motivated engineer with a passion for vehicle safety and brake system performance, capable of driving improvements through data-driven insights and innovative validation approaches.
Interpersonal Skills:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across internal teams and supplier organizations.
Cross-Functional Excellence:
Proven success working across vehicle dynamics, controls, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams within an OEM environment.
