The Opportunity The Sr. Compliance Engineer manages approvals projects by interfacing with various agencies to obtain product certification to safety and performance standards. The Sr. Compliance Engineer is part of the Det-Tronics Engineering Approvals Team and assists with the ongoing work required to obtain and maintain product compliance with the required industry regulations. This role will perform detailed product analyses and hands-on product testing to verify compliance, and will then interface with regulatory agencies to create and prepare the submission materials to acquire certification. They will also act as a consultant to others and other teams on compliance matters, such as (i.e., advising the design team of sustaining and new product development projects, answering customer questions regarding approvals-related questions from sales, product management, field-support, and after-market teams, etc.)
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret applicable safety and/or performance industry standards and apply the requirements to the products. Participate in product development teams to ensure that global hazardous location and performance requirements are considered and properly addressed in the design, and verified. Understand product requirements and develop certification strategies to meet those requirements. Create test plans, and oversee and interpret the test results in compliance with company and industry standards and policies. Prepare technical justifications and technical documents to demonstrate compliance to applicable standards. Interface directly with third-party certification agencies, and manage projects with them. Write and execute test protocols in accordance with approval standards and procedures, record results and write test reports. Maintain existing certifications, and support preparations for audits and participate in audits. Prioritize and manage work requests in an organized and timely manner. What you
Bring Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering. At least 5 years of industry experience. At least 3 years in approvals/compliance engineering. Have led at least 2 product approvals testing regiments and agency submissions with successful certifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Highly preferred). Experience in the design and certification of products used in hazardous locations, including performance certifications. Experience with sustaining and new product development projects, and strong working knowledge of product development processes particularly verification and validation testing. Understand requirements in safety and performance standards and apply that knowledge in the evaluation of a product via technical analysis and/or testing. Follow department operating procedures and have an open attitude for continuous improvement. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to clearly present data and articulate test results to agencies and other internal working groups. Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at once. Perform essential job functions safely, and work within established company guidelines. Experience in the design and certification of products used in hazardous locations, including performance certifications, is desirable. Experience with hazardous location and/or performance standards (FM, CSA, ATEX, IECEx) is desired. Why Join Us?
