| Full-Time | In-Person Job Overview LumESCO is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical or Electrical Engineer to join our growing team. This position will support the design, development, testing, qualification, application, specification creation, production and continuous improvement of commercial and industrial LED lighting products. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving problems and is comfortable working across multiple disciplines. This position will interact with product development, manufacturing, suppliers, quality, sales, and management to take products from initial concept through testing, certification, production, application, and ongoing improvement. Prior electrical, appliance, or lighting-industry experience is beneficial but not required. We are looking for someone with strong engineering fundamentals, logical problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn LED lighting, photometrics, and application software. Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Support the design and development of commercial and industrial LED lighting fixtures and related components.
- Develop and review mechanical and/or electrical designs, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Evaluate product designs for performance, manufacturability, reliability, cost, and compliance.
- Perform product testing, troubleshooting, failure analysis, and root-cause analysis.
- Inspect components, assemblies, prototypes, and finished products for compliance with engineering specifications and quality requirements.
- Assist with the development of test procedures, test fixtures, and product validation methods.
- Document test results and maintain accurate engineering and compliance records.
- Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners to resolve component, quality, production, and engineering issues.
- Review samples and production units to verify conformance with approved designs and specifications.
- Assist with new product development from initial concept through engineering release and production.
- Develop and maintain engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), specifications, assembly instructions, and other technical documentation.
- Review and evaluate components including LED boards, drivers, controls, wiring, connectors, housings, optics, lenses, gaskets, fasteners, and related mechanical/electrical components.
- Support product certification and compliance activities involving applicable UL, ETL, DLC, FCC, NEC, and other industry standards and requirements.
- Assist in evaluating product thermal performance, electrical performance, mechanical construction, ingress protection, and overall product reliability.
- Identify opportunities to improve product performance, quality, manufacturability, and cost.
- Troubleshoot returned products and field issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Learn and develop proficiency with lighting layout, photometric, and lighting application software.
- Assist with preparation and review of lighting layouts and photometric calculations for commercial and industrial applications.
- Work with LumESCO sales and engineering teams to evaluate fixture selection and product application for customer projects.
- Work closely with internal departments and outside suppliers to move projects forward and meet development timelines.
- Manage multiple engineering projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Perform other engineering and product-development responsibilities as needed. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Strong analytical, logical, and technical problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to independently investigate problems, identify root causes, and develop practical solutions.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, schematics, technical data, and test reports.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on engineering environment involving prototypes, testing, manufacturing, and production products.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general engineering software/tools.
- Willingness and ability to learn lighting design, photometric layouts, and lighting application software. Preferred Qualifications Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred but not required:
- LED lighting or lighting product development
- Commercial and industrial electrical products or appliances
- SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software
- Electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- LED drivers, power supplies, controls, sensors, and low-voltage electronics
- Thermal management
- Sheet metal, aluminum die casting, extrusion, plastics, gaskets, and mechanical assemblies
- Product testing and validation
- UL/ETL product certification and DLC requirements
- IP-rated or outdoor electrical products
- Manufacturing and quality-control processes
