12 Months Job Summary As part of the Supplier Development team, the Supplier Development Engineer will be responsible for developing, qualifying, and improving suppliers for non-metallic components, specifically cowling assemblies. The role focuses on supplier capability, process excellence, quality systems, new product launches, tooling transfers, and continuous improvement. The engineer will work cross-functionally with Engineering, Purchasing, and Quality teams to support design reviews, APQP deliverables, supplier qualification, PPAP execution, and launch activities. Regular day and/or overnight business travel by automobile or airplane may be required, up to 40%. Key Responsibilities Onboard new suppliers for non-metallic cowling components. Conduct supplier capability assessments, audits, and feasibility reviews. Develop and implement supplier improvement plans for quality, delivery, and productivity. Oversee tooling transfers and validate installation and readiness at supplier sites. Ensure suppliers establish robust process controls and meet APQP requirements. Support development of PFMEA, Control Plans, and Process Flow Diagrams. Lead suppliers through APQP phases for new product launches and transfers. Review and approve PPAP submissions, including dimensional analysis, material certifications, and capability studies. Ensure compliance with applicable industry and regulatory standards for non-metallic components. Drive supplier improvements using Lean Six Sigma and best practices. Monitor supplier metrics including PPM, OTD, and process capability. Implement corrective actions and facilitate supplier training programs. Partner with Engineering, Purchasing, and Quality teams. Support design reviews and provide input on manufacturability and process capability. Align supplier activities with design requirements and launch timelines. Skills Required Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field. 3-5 years of Supplier Quality, Supplier Development, or Manufacturing Engineering experience. Strong knowledge of non-metallic manufacturing processes, including: Injection Molding Blow Molding Thermoforming Composite Layup Strong understanding of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, and Control Plans. Familiarity with DOE, SPC, GD&T, and Mold Flow Analysis. Strong problem-solving skills using 8D, A3, 5-Why, and Fishbone methodologies. Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications. Experience with supplier audits and capability assessments. Experience with supplier corrective actions and improvement plans. Excellent communication and project management skills. Tooling transfer experience is preferred. Lean Six Sigma experience is preferred. Marine/boat manufacturing, automotive, powersports, plastics, composites, supplier quality, or manufacturing industry experience is preferred. Experience with APQP launches, new product introduction, supplier training, PPM/OTD metrics, and non-metallic cowling components is a plus. Ability and willingness to travel up to 40% by automobile or airplane.
