Direct Hire Location:
Lowell, Ma area Position Overview Ardent Staffing Solutions is seeking an experienced Test Engineering Lead for a direct-hire opportunity with an industry-leading semiconductor technology manufacturer. This position combines advanced RF and DC semiconductor test development with hands-on technical leadership and offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer looking to advance into engineering management while remaining actively involved in technical work. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in semiconductor test engineering, particularly in the design, development, and implementation of new RF and DC test systems. This individual will lead a team of approximately 3-5 engineers while maintaining an active role in developing test solutions, troubleshooting complex technical challenges, and supporting high-volume semiconductor manufacturing. This is a true hands-on leadership position, with approximately 50% of the role focused on engineering development and 50% on technical leadership. The position also offers a potential path into formal engineering management as the team continues to evolve. The successful candidate will help develop advanced semiconductor test solutions supporting communications, data center infrastructure, microwave, and millimeter-wave applications operating at frequencies up to 100 GHz and beyond. Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and provide technical direction to a team of approximately 3-5 semiconductor test engineers.
- Design, develop, and implement new RF and DC semiconductor test systems, programs, and testing methodologies from initial concept through production release.
- Remain actively involved in hands-on engineering, including test hardware development, instrumentation selection, software development, characterization, debugging, and system optimization.
- Develop automated test solutions for discrete semiconductor devices, monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs), and advanced RF modules.
- Support high-frequency RF and millimeter-wave test applications, including technologies operating at frequencies up to 100 GHz and beyond.
- Partner with test development leadership to establish technical priorities, develop new testing concepts, and support engineering initiatives.
- Troubleshoot complex RF/DC test challenges involving hardware, software, instrumentation, measurement accuracy, and manufacturing performance.
- Analyze test data, investigate failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to improve manufacturing yield, product quality, and test reliability.
- Support new product introduction (NPI), test system validation, production readiness, and transfer of test solutions into manufacturing environments.
- Improve automated test processes, calibration methods, test throughput, measurement integrity, and overall manufacturing efficiency.
- Develop and maintain test procedures, engineering documentation, calibration standards, and production test workflows.
- Collaborate with Design Engineering, Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, and external test partners to resolve technical challenges.
- Promote a collaborative, accountable, and hands-on engineering environment focused on continuous improvement and team development. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years of semiconductor test engineering experience, including RF and DC test development, automated testing, and manufacturing support.
- Strong hands-on experience designing, building, debugging, and deploying semiconductor test systems and automated test solutions.
- Demonstrated experience developing new test systems, test programs, or testing methodologies rather than exclusively maintaining existing equipment.
- Strong understanding of RF measurement techniques, DC testing, semiconductor test instrumentation, and automated test platforms.
- Experience with test hardware, software, instrumentation integration, characterization, and production test implementation.
- Experience supporting semiconductor manufacturing, new product introduction, and test processes in production environments.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, including test data analysis, root-cause investigation, and corrective action implementation.
- Demonstrated technical leadership experience through engineering project leadership, mentoring, technical direction, or direct team leadership.
- Ability and willingness to balance hands-on engineering responsibilities with mentoring, team coordination, and technical decision-making.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering and manufacturing teams. Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Experience with RF, microwave, or millimeter-wave semiconductor devices and associated test methodologies.
- Experience testing MMICs, RF modules, discrete semiconductor components, or advanced high-frequency devices.
- Familiarity with semiconductor package interfaces, RF calibration techniques, and high-frequency test system design.
- Experience developing or supporting automated test systems for high-volume semiconductor manufacturing.
- Demonstrated success improving test yield, measurement accuracy, test throughput, manufacturing cost, or product quality.
- Previous experience leading a small engineering team or serving as a senior technical lead.
- Interest in progressing into a formal engineering management position. What Makes This Opportunity Stand Out
