Internship Program Overview:
Our Interns & Co-ops are our entry-level talent pipeline for GF across the globe. Summary of Role:
GlobalFoundries' RF Technology Development team is seeking a summer 2027 engineering intern who enjoys writing code and automating complex engineering workflows. In this hands-on role, you will own real deliverables with support from a named mentor, work within live technology development projects, and build scripts and tools that improve how the team creates, checks, and releases test structures, process design kits, design manuals, test-site data, and verification decks.
Essential Responsibilities include:
Write and maintain Python, Shell, and Tcl scripts that automate design manual generation, ground-rule validation builds, PDK builds, releases, and regression checks. Build internal tools and dashboards that consolidate spreadsheets and logs into a current view of project status. Automate data extraction and reporting from test-site, design-manual, and verification sources to reduce manual data entry and improve consistency. Develop and extend regression test suites so kit and deck changes are validated automatically before release. Improve version-control and continuous-integration practices through repeatable builds, code review, and reusable scripts. Translate complex manual engineering workflows into documented automation that can be maintained and reused by the team. Own assigned deliverables, collaborate with engineering stakeholders, and present project results to the broader technology development organization at the end of the internship.
Other Responsibilities:
Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.
Required Qualifications:
Education - At least a sophomore at time of application and actively pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field through an accredited degree program during the time of internship. Must have at least an overall 3.0 GPA and be in good academic standing. Language Fluency - English (Written & Verbal) Ability to work at least 40 hours per week during the internship. Comfortable writing Python and able to read and debug code written by others. Familiarity with Linux, command-line environments, and version control using Git. Demonstrated interest in programming through personal projects, open-source contributions, competitions, research, coursework, or independently developed automation. Ability to break down a loosely defined manual process into clear steps and implement those steps in code.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior related internship or co-op experience Demonstrated prior leadership experience in the workplace, school projects, competitions, etc. Strong interest in leveraging AI tools and emerging technologies to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and support effective decision-making. Project management skills, i.e., the ability to innovate and execute on solutions that matter; the ability to navigate ambiguity. Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong planning & organizational skills Exposure to semiconductor device physics, VLSI design, or layout and CAD tool flows. Scripting experience with Tcl , SKILL, Perl, or Shell in addition to Python. Experience with data-handling libraries such as pandas or with plotting and dashboard tools. Exposure to continuous integration, test automation, or build systems.
