Job Title:
Engineer I Job Description This Engineer I role supports the planning, design, and development of technical standards for gas distribution infrastructure projects. The engineer contributes to the design of pipeline products, gas storage, and gas fueling station systems, while also supporting the planning and maintenance of mechanical equipment and components. The position offers a hybrid work schedule, flexible hours, and the opportunity for conversion to a full-time permanent role. Responsibilities Assist in the planning, design, and development of technical standards for gas distribution infrastructure projects. Work on gas storage and gas fueling station design assignments, including the design of components and functionality of pipeline products. Participate in the planning and design of mechanical equipment and components, with a focus on the maintenance and reliability of mechanical systems. Perform system balances to determine optimal solutions for system issues, identify system low points, and develop effective methods to resolve them. Provide oversight and support for construction activities to ensure designs are implemented safely, accurately, and in accordance with standards and regulations. Apply engineering design principles for pipeline, utility, mechanical, and linear projects, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, including DOT requirements. Support project management activities, including coordination of tasks, tracking of project progress, and adherence to project controls. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to clarify requirements, address design issues, and support project delivery. Contribute to stakeholder meetings, including sessions with sr leadership, to present design concepts, project status, and technical recommendations. Essential Skills Minimum of Internship experience or 1 year of professional working experience in an engineering capacity. Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Civil; Chemical Engineering is also considered. Experience with engineering design for pipelines, utilities, mechanical systems, and linear projects. Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD for developing and modifying engineering drawings. Knowledge of pipeline design, utility design, mechanical design, and civil engineering principles. Experience supporting or performing project management activities, including planning, scheduling, and coordination. Familiarity with project controls practices to monitor progress, scope, and cost. Understanding of applicable DOT regulations related to pipeline and gas distribution infrastructure. Ability to support construction activities by interpreting design documents and providing technical guidance. Strong analytical skills to perform system balances and evaluate system performance issues. Effective communication skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders. Additional Skills & Qualifications Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is a plus. Ability to run stakeholder meetings with high-level leadership, including presenting technical information clearly and confidently. Exposure to maintenance planning for mechanical equipment and components. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing design and project documentation. Work Environment The role offers a hybrid work environment with flexible hours, allowing the workday to start between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. and consisting of an 8-hour day. The position follows a schedule of four days in the office with Friday as a remote workday. The office is located in a central urban area within walking distance of a major transit station, providing convenient access by public transportation. The organization offers 10 days of paid time off and 10 paid holidays, along with the potential to be converted to a full-time permanent position as opportunities arise. Work involves collaboration with design, engineering, and construction teams, using tools such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and potentially MicroStation in a professional office setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Atlanta, GA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
