Engineer I Job Description The Engineer I supports the planning, design, and development of technical standards for gas distribution infrastructure projects. This role contributes to the design of pipeline systems, gas storage, and gas fueling stations, while assisting with the planning and maintenance of mechanical equipment and components. This position offers a hybrid work schedule, flexible hours, and the opportunity for conversion to a full-time, permanent role. Key Responsibilities Support the planning, design, and development of technical standards for gas distribution infrastructure projects. Assist with gas storage and gas fueling station design, including pipeline components and system functionality. Participate in the design and planning of mechanical equipment and systems, with a focus on reliability and maintenance. Perform system balancing analyses to identify inefficiencies, troubleshoot system issues, and recommend corrective solutions. Provide support and oversight during construction to ensure designs are implemented safely, accurately, and in compliance with standards. Apply engineering principles across pipeline, utility, mechanical, and linear infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations (including DOT requirements). Support project management activities such as task coordination, progress tracking, and adherence to project controls. Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to clarify requirements, resolve design issues, and support successful project delivery. Participate in stakeholder meetings, including presentations to senior leadership, to communicate design concepts, project updates, and technical recommendations. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Civil preferred; Chemical Engineering also considered). Internship experience or up to 1 year of professional engineering experience. Experience or exposure to engineering design for pipelines, utilities, mechanical systems, or linear infrastructure projects. Proficiency in AutoCAD for creating and modifying engineering drawings. Understanding of pipeline, utility, mechanical, and civil design principles. Familiarity with project management fundamentals, including planning, scheduling, and coordination. Knowledge of project controls concepts (scope, schedule, cost tracking). Understanding of DOT regulations related to pipeline and gas distribution systems. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward licensure. Experience presenting technical information to stakeholders or senior leadership. Exposure to maintenance planning for mechanical systems and equipment. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation and deliverables.
Work Environment Hybrid schedule:
4 days in-office, Fridays remote Flexible start time between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. (8-hour workday) Office located in a central, transit-accessible urban area Collaboration with engineering, design, and construction teams in a professional office environment Equipment and tools include AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and potentially MicroStation Benefits 10 days of paid time off (PTO) 10 paid holidays Opportunity for conversion to a full-time, permanent position Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Atlanta, GA.
