• $35 / per hour Part time Apply Now Back Job Description The Scrub Technician is a critical member of the surgical team, responsible for maintaining the sterile field and assisting surgeons during ophthalmic procedures, with a primary focus on cataract extraction and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation.

The ideal candidate has strong, recent experience in cataract surgery, including Phaco machine setup, instrument handling, and tray organization. Lasik experience would be a bonus. This position would require 4-8 days per month with a set schedule determined months in advance.

Key Responsibilities Preoperative Setup:

Assemble, check, and sterilize necessary surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies, particularly for cataract (Phaco) procedures. Set up sterile back tables and Mayo stands according to surgeon preference cards. Ensure Phaco machine functionality, set up tubing/handpieces, and troubleshoot errors. Verify the availability and accuracy of intra-ocular lenses (IOLs) with the circulator.

Intraoperative Assistance:

Scrub, gown, and glove; drape patients and establish a sterile field. Anticipate the needs of the surgeon, passing instruments, supplies, and medications accurately during cataract, pterygium, or related eye surgeries. Ensure strict maintenance of aseptic technique throughout the procedure. Perform accurate counts of surgical instruments, needles, and sponges with the circulating nurse.

Postoperative Duties:

Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization. Assist in turnover of the operating room between cases. Handle and label surgical specimens appropriately. Restock operating rooms with supplies as required.

Patient Care:

Assist in positioning and transferring patients safely. Provide reassuring communication to patients before, during, and after surgery.

Required Qualifications Experience:

Minimum of 1-2 years of recent operating room scrub experience, with strong proficiency in cataract surgery.

Education:

Completion of an accredited surgical technology program.

Certification:

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred (or equivalent experience).

Licensure:

Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.

Skills:

Expertise in sterile technique and infection control. Knowledge of ocular anatomy and cataract surgical steps. Ability to load intra-ocular lenses. Proficiency in Phaco machine setup and troubleshooting. Physical Demands & Work Environment Must be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 25-30 lbs.
