Job Description
About the role: The Robotics Technician serves the Advanced Automation Infrastructure team and is on the front line of ZT Systems' automated assembly operations, keeping our robotic systems running at peak performance. You'll own the day-to-day health of KUKA robotic arms, leading calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and recovery when equipment goes down. This is an opportunity to build hands-on expertise at the center of next-generation manufacturing for one of the industry's leading hyperscale system integrators. What you'll do: Serve as the owner for KUKA robotic systems, maintaining robot performance, availability, calibration, mastering, and preventive maintenance. Diagnose and resolve complex robot, controller, EOAT, and robotic cell faults, minimizing production downtime and escalating advanced issues to KUKA when required. Develop and maintain a KUKA-specific critical spares strategy, ensuring high-risk components are available to support rapid recovery of equipment. Partner with KUKA field service and internal engineering teams on complex repairs, system improvements, upgrades, and recurring failure elimination. Maintain accurate robot programs, configurations, calibration data, maintenance records, and recovery documentation for each robotic cell. Analyze equipment performance and downtime trends to identify root causes, reliability improvements, and opportunities to increase automation availability. Crosstrain and provide backup support for the automated controls and mechanical systems to build team-wide knowledge and eliminate single points of knowledge.
What you bring:
A minimum of a trade school certification in a technical field and 6+ years of practical experience in an automated manufacturing environment. Strong hands-on expertise with industrial robotics, including programming, troubleshooting, calibration, mastering, axis/servo systems, and controller diagnostics across a wide platform of robots. KUKA experience highly preferred. Proven ability to diagnose complex robotic faults independently, distinguishing mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and communication-related issues. Strong experience with End-of-Arm Tooling (EOAT), robot-to-tool interfaces, pneumatic systems, sensors, and tooling-related failure modes. Experience developing and executing robot preventive maintenance, calibration, recovery, and reliability programs in a production environment. Ability to interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, I/O documentation, robot programs, and technical manuals to systematically troubleshoot equipment. Demonstrated ability to work directly with OEM field service teams, lead technical escalations, and communicate effectively with engineering and operations. A continuous-improvement mindset, with the ability to identify recurring failures, perform root-cause analysis, and implement changes that improve equipment availability and reduce downtime. Experience with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Excel, and Word). Strong verbal and written communications skills.
