Job Description
What to Expect Tesla is seeking a Development Operations Lead to serve as the operational backbone of Tesla Energy's project development organization. This role will build the systems, processes, and workflows that enable the team to scale across solar, storage, and powered land projects. The Operations Lead will own the team's project management infrastructure — processes, budget tracking, vendor management, legal and contract coordination, and cross-functional reporting. This person will ensure that nothing falls through the cracks as the pipeline grows, and will be a key enabler of the team's speed and execution quality. Successful candidates will have deep experience in renewable energy development operations and a builder's mentality. We are seeking someone who thrives in ambiguity, can stand up processes from scratch, and has a passion for Tesla's mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy. What You'll Do Design and implement the development team's project management framework, including stage-gate processes, milestone tracking, and go/no-go decision workflows Own development budget tracking and reporting across the full portfolio, ensuring spend aligns with strategic priorities and capital allocation plans Manage vendor and consultant relationships (environmental, survey, legal, title) and negotiate master service agreements Coordinate land acquisition and legal workflows, including option agreements, lease negotiations, title/survey coordination, interconnection deposits, and permitting applications Build reporting dashboards and KPI frameworks to give leadership real-time visibility into pipeline health, spend, and risk Develop and maintain internal knowledge management systems, templates, and playbooks for repeatable development processes Drive cross-functional coordination between development, interconnection, origination, engineering, and finance workstreams What You'll Bring 5-12+ years in renewable energy development operations, project management, or infrastructure project delivery Experience building or significantly scaling development operations at a utility-scale solar, storage, or wind developer Strong proficiency in project management tools and experience building portfolio-level tracking systems Experience managing development budgets across large portfolios ($25M+ annual spend) Familiarity with the full renewable energy development lifecycle from site identification through NTP, including land, permitting, interconnection, and offtake milestones Experience with land acquisition workflows — option agreements, lease negotiations, title review, and closing processes Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D Short-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period) Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation $136,000 - $264,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
