What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to support and optimize solar manufacturing processes for solar at massive scale. You will help deploy 100GW of solar manufacturing from raw materials on American soil before the end of 2028. This role is core to Tesla's mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work with a highly motivated team on extremely challenging projects. What You'll Do
During launch of this greenfield facility, you will assist with Functional Testing, Equipment and Product Testing, LOTO reviews and safety sign offs, and work instruction development
Support day-to-day process monitoring and control for various processes like: Czochralski crystal pulling, diamond wire saw slicing, texturing, wafer cleaning, thin film deposition, screen printing, and laser operations
Collect, analyze, and report process data
Execute designed experiments (DOE) to achieve oxygen/carbon, and crystal defect targets, cell efficiency, Voc, Isc, FF, passivation targets, TTV, warp, bow, and breakage rate targets
Identify and escalate process excursions, implementing short-term containment and contributing to root cause analysis
Maintain and update process recipes, control charts, and standard operating procedures
Support process validation activities including first article builds and capability studies
Collaborate with equipment engineers to ensure tool performance meets process requirements
Contribute to yield improvement projects and track and report process KPIs
Evolve the manufacturing knowledge base through structured experiment documentation and process standards What You'll Bring
Degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or equivalent experience
5+ years of process engineering experience in semiconductor ingot, wafer or cell manufacturing
Hands-on experience with some of the following processes: Czochralski crystal pulling, diamond wire saw slicing, texturing, wafer cleaning, thin film deposition, screen printing, and laser operations
Proficiency in experimental design, SPC, and process data analysis
Experience with theory of constraints, Six Sigma and problem-solving methods
Experience developing and maintaining process recipes and SOPs in a production environment
Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for process excursions
Experience with AI tools, Python, SQL, and Statistical Software for process data analysis
Strong attention to detail and ability to work methodically in a high-volume manufacturing setting
Capability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally. Travel will vary based on launch timing. More frequently during build, less during HVM and sustaining Compensation and Benefits
