Job Description
Overview We are urgently seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Solar Site Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team at SYMX Energy. In this vital role, you will lead the electrical design, system integration, and construction oversight of solar energy projects. Your expertise will drive the successful development of renewable energy solutions, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance throughout every phase. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to sustainable energy initiatives while working in a fast-paced, innovative environment. Key Responsibilities Technical Oversight & Standards Provide technical leadership for electrical systems across multiple solar projects, ensuring alignment with project and company standards as well as industry best practices. Review and validate electrical designs, including: o DC systems (stringing, combiner boxes, DC cabling) o AC systems (inverters, transformers, medium-voltage collection systems) o Substations and interconnection facilities Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, utility requirements). Support development and continuous improvement of electrical engineering standards and specifications. Construction & Field Support Provide remote and periodic on-site support to construction teams for electrical installation activities.
Oversee installation quality for:
o DC cable routing, terminations, and testing o Inverter and skid installation o MV cable installation, terminations, and testing o Grounding and bonding systems o Substation o Overhead line Gentie Support resolution of complex field issues such as cable faults, inverter integration challenges, and protection coordination. Monitor contractor performance and ensure adherence to specifications and installation procedures. Engineering Coordination Act as liaison between corporate engineering and site teams to ensure accurate implementation of design intent. Review RFIs, submittals, and design changes related to electrical systems. Support value engineering and constructability reviews. Coordinate with procurement to ensure proper electrical equipment selection and delivery. Quality Assurance & Compliance Establish and enforce QA/QC standards for electrical installation and testing. Review inspection test plans (ITPs), commissioning procedures, and test results. Support internal and external audits to ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements. Identify non-conformances and ensure timely corrective actions. Commissioning & Energization Support commissioning activities, including: o Pre-commissioning checks and system verification o Functional testing of inverters, SCADA, and protection systems o Grid synchronization and energization Review test reports and ensure readiness for energization. Coordinate with utilities and third-party inspectors as required. Performance & Risk Management Track electrical-related risks across projects and implement mitigation strategies. Support troubleshooting of underperforming systems post-energization. Analyze system performance data and recommend improvements. Documentation & Reporting Ensure accurate documentation of electrical systems, including as-builts, test reports, andcommissioning records. Support project closeout and turnover documentation (job books). Provide regular reporting to leadership on electrical scope progress, risks, and quality metrics. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. 5-10+ years of experience in solar, renewable energy, or power systems. Strong knowledge of solar PV electrical systems (DC, AC, MV, substations). Experience with codes and standards such as NEC, IEEE, and utility interconnection requirements. Familiarity with SCADA systems, protection schemes, and commissioning processes. Proficiency with engineering and project tools (AutoCAD, ETAP, Procore, MS Project).
