Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented and enthusiastic Land Survey Assistant Manager to assist the Survey Manager with leading our land surveying projects. This pivotal role will involve assisting with the oversight of all aspects of land surveying operations, ensuring accurate data collection, mapping, and analysis to support civil engineering, construction, and development initiatives. Qualities for this position include effective team leadership, advanced technical skills, meticulous planning, multi-tasking, ability to fast-track and remain flexible. This position will work alongside/under the current survey manager for training and acclimation purposes to allow for potential transition into manager position in the future. Responsibilities Lead and coordinate land surveying projects from initial planning through completion, ensuring adherence to project timelines and quality standards. Oversee field data collection using GPS and other advanced survey equipment such as Sokkia systems and total stations. Utilize GIS (Geographic Information Systems), ArcGIS, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and AutoCAD to process survey data, create detailed schematics, maps, and 3D models for various projects. Conduct complex calculations involving trigonometry, algebra, geometry, and math principles to ensure precise measurements and spatial accuracy. Manage survey crews in performing ALTA surveys (American Land Title Association), construction staking, boundary surveys, topographic mapping, utility surveys and data collection for civil engineering applications. Prepare comprehensive survey reports, schematics, and documentation that meet industry standards and client specifications. Collaborate with civil engineers and project managers to interpret survey data for design development and construction planning. Qualifications Professional Land Surveyor License in the State of Alabama Required (currently licensed or to be licensed within the near future). Proven experience in land surveying management or a related role within civil engineering or construction environments. Strong proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation; GIS tools including ArcGIS; and survey-specific programs like Carlson or Revit. Extensive knowledge of GPS technology and data collection methods using Sokkia or similar equipment. Solid understanding of land surveying principles including trigonometry, geometry, algebra, schematics creation, ALTA surveys, and construction staking. Familiarity with civil engineering concepts related to land development projects and construction processes. Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage teams/crews effectively while maintaining high standards of accuracy and safety. Strong communication skills for preparing reports, schematics, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
