JOB SUMMARY
A Survey Layout Technician supports the Crew Chief in performing accurate and efficient field surveying and construction layout on active job sites. This role is responsible for operating survey equipment, assisting with staking and layout of site features, and helping ensure work aligns with project plans, tolerances, and design intent. The technician contributes to quality control by verifying measurements, maintaining organized field data, and identifying discrepancies. Additional responsibilities include assisting with equipment setup and maintenance, managing field documentation, adhering to jobsite safety standards, and working collaboratively with the crew and project teams in a variety of construction environments.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Responsibilities:
Support crew chief with field data collection Set up and operate survey equipment including Total stations, GPS, and Data Collectors Measure and record site and project specific data Assist the crew chief with construction layout support Various staking of foundations, utilities, L.O.C, site grading, curb & gutter Mark points with stakes, hubs, lath, paint and nails. Verify layout matches plans and tolerances. Assist crew chief with equipment setup and maintenance.
Instrument set up:
tripod leveling, backsight orientation, control point verification Perform daily checks including battery checks and equipment calibration. Maintain and transport equipment safely. Assist crew chief with quality control support. Double check shots and points Confirm control points and benchmarks Identify discrepancies and alert crew chief Help ensure layouts meet tolerances and design intent Assist crew chief with documentation and data management Enter point descriptions and codes in the data collector Maintain organized field notes in a survey logbook or digitally Assist with syncing field data to the office through Trimble Business Center & Connect. Follow all of JHLs jobsite safety protocols (PPE and situational awareness) Communicate with Crew Chief and site superintendents Work around active construction safely. Create and maintain daily time sheets, data logs, and field reports Manage inventory of equipment and perform regular maintenance checks of equipment. The ability to work in a variety of construction environments including commercial, educational, industrial and health care related projects. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects and deadlines. Willingness to pursue continued education on Survey, Layout and Geomatics. Education /
Experience/ Training:
High School Diploma, or GED Equivalent. 1-5 Years of experience in commercial construction Maintain OSHA 30 (minimum) and recommended refresher training as well as any project specific/need based safety training. Attend training for operational software as needed to stay current. 1-2+ years of experience using TopCon with Magnet Field software or Trimble Equipment with Trimble Business Cetner and Trimble Connect Knowledge / Skills /
Abilities:
Basic understanding of survey principles (angles, distances, elevations) Basic understanding of construction drawings for layout Familiarity with Trimble, TopCon, and other related survey technology and software Basic understanding of Civil 3

TOTAL COMPENSATION
