Survey Crew Technician

Transition Engineering Surveying (TES) is pleased to announce a job opening for an Survey Crew Assistant. TES is a fast-paced small business, specializing in engineering surveying services. Located in Newark, Delaware, our office is easily accessible from most of New Castle County. The Survey Assistant is an important member of the survey field crew who provides assistance and support to the Survey Crew Chief in completing field survey work. The right candidate should bring a strong technical background, interpersonal skills, intellectual curiosity and a desire for continued growth and learning.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Learns from members of the crew the tasks being performed, why they are being performed and the importance thereof
• Loads and carries equipment and supplies into the vehicle for work to be performed each day
• Follows directions issued by the Crew Chief while on the job site
• Proper care and safe use of survey equipment including tools such as: hammer, machete, shovel, and the like
• Learn and adapt to surveying techniques such as: leveling, traversing, paint and mark laths, properly operate level rod and prism pole, and making field notes and sketches
• Maintains optimal communication with Survey Crew Chief
• Is always aware of surroundings and acts in a safe manner, is alert and fit for work, no cell phone use while in the field

Minimum Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver's license
• Requires the ability to bend and stoop repeatedly and to move objects for long distances
• Must be able to work in a variety of field and weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to perform basic calculations and math functions
• Capable of functioning with Microsoft Office
• Neat printing
• Ability to type and use computer
• Honesty, open-mindedness, ability to listen, self-motivation and willingness to learn new stuff

Preferred Requirements:

• Survey experience
• Experience in drafting software (AutoCAD, Carlson Survey, ServCE, etc.)
• Knowledge of field survey engineering methods and techniques and survey instruments

$20.00 - $25.00 per hour
