CAB Engineering Solutions, Inc. is a respected and growing civil engineering and land surveying firm specializing in site planning, design, surveying, permitting, and construction services for retail, commercial, residential, and public-sector projects. Our team works on a diverse range of projects throughout Southeastern Massachusetts and provides clients with high-quality, practical solutions from initial planning and surveying through permitting, design, and construction. We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Survey CAD Technician to join our growing Survey Department.
Position Summary:
The Survey CAD Technician plays an important role within the Survey Department and is responsible for processing field survey data and preparing accurate, high-quality survey drawings and project deliverables. The successful candidate will work closely with Surveyors, Survey Crew Chiefs, Instrument Operators, Engineers, Designers, and Project Managers to process survey information, prepare CAD drawings, develop construction staking data, and ensure that project objectives, quality standards, and schedules are met. This position provides an opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, subdivision plans, construction layout, and as-built surveys. The position offers flexibility between office and remote work, with opportunities to assist survey field crews when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Process incoming field survey data and prepare final land surveying deliverables using Carlson Survey and/or Civil 3D. Prepare accurate CAD drawings for a variety of projects, including: Topographic surveys Boundary surveys

surveys Subdivision plans and plats Construction staking surveys As-built surveys Existing conditions surveys Process, analyze, and interpret survey data collected by field crews. Create and maintain survey points, point groups, linework, breaklines, surfaces, alignments, profiles, and other CAD data. Create and interpret 3D surface models and prepare contour mapping. Prepare construction staking data, point files, stakeout sketches, and DXF files for field crews. Create points, centerlines, profiles, and other layout information required for construction staking. Research deeds, plans, easements, and other land records using information obtained from municipal assessors, registries of deeds, and other public records. Research utility information, identify applicable utility providers, coordinate information requests, follow up on outstanding information, and maintain organized utility records. Maintain and organize digital and paper survey records and project documentation. Review incoming field data and CAD drawings for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with project requirements. Collaborate with Survey Managers, Project Managers, Engineers, Survey Crew Chiefs, and other project staff. Communicate regularly with field crews to provide information, clarification, and support for ongoing projects. Assist survey crews in the field when needed, including existing-condition surveys, as-built surveys, construction layout, and other field assignments. Perform site inspections, registry research, and quality-assurance field checks as required. Assist with project coordination and meeting established project schedules and deadlines. Maintain a high level of accuracy and organization across multiple projects. Provide guidance and technical support to junior staff and assist with quality control and review of survey deliverables.
Qualifications:
3+ years of related experience in land surveying, CAD drafting, survey data processing, construction layout, boundary analysis, route surveys, Digital Terrain Models (DTMs), or related work. Vocational/technical high school diploma, associate degree, certificate in CAD/drafting, surveying, or a related field preferred. Proficiency with Carlson Survey, AutoCAD, and/or Civil 3D . Strong understanding of survey points, point groups, CSV files, CRD files, coordinate systems, and survey data processing. Ability to efficiently organize and manage DWG files using Xrefs, dynamic blocks, layers, colors, and other CAD standards. Experience post-processing survey data and preparing stakeout sketches, point files, and DXF files. Understanding of coordinate systems, horizontal and vertical datums, and survey control. Experience creating and working with 3D surfaces is preferred but not required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Dropbox, Microsoft Teams, and other common PC-based software. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality. Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines while maintaining a high level of quality. Willingness and ability to assist with field surveying activities when needed. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
