Job Title:
Survey Technician Job Description The Survey Technician monitors and supports survey equipment operations near active construction sites, including buildings, roadways, and bridges. This role focuses on precise data collection using automated total stations and related software, with occasional field visits to verify conditions and ensure accurate environmental and structural monitoring. Responsibilities Monitor survey equipment, including total stations, positioned near buildings, roadways, bridges, and other infrastructure to ensure continuous and accurate data collection. Conduct occasional field visits to construction and infrastructure sites to verify equipment placement, assess site conditions, and perform basic troubleshooting of survey instrumentation. Operate and oversee automated total station systems, ensuring they function correctly and capture reliable survey and monitoring data. Use Leica and related survey instrumentation to support environmental and structural monitoring activities around construction and infrastructure projects. Utilize GeoMos or similar monitoring software to review, manage, and interpret survey data, identifying anomalies or issues that may require further investigation. Assist with data analysis and reporting, helping to translate collected survey data into clear, usable information for project teams. Support the setup, calibration, and maintenance of survey equipment to maintain accuracy and reliability in all monitoring activities. Collaborate with survey team members and technical staff to coordinate monitoring activities and ensure alignment with project requirements and schedules. Follow established QA/QC procedures and documentation standards to maintain high-quality, traceable survey records. Adhere to safety protocols and site requirements while working in and around construction and infrastructure environments. Essential Skills Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience with survey instrumentation and data collection. Hands-on experience with automated total station systems; automated total station experience strongly preferred. Proficiency with Leica survey equipment and related instrumentation. Experience with GeoMos software for monitoring and data management is required. High school diploma or equivalent. Strong data analysis skills, with the ability to interpret survey and monitoring outputs accurately. Familiarity with AutoCAD for reviewing or working with survey-related drawings and data. Ability to conduct field visits and work safely in and around active construction and infrastructure sites. Attention to detail and commitment to accurate, high-quality data collection and documentation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology, Land Surveying, or a related field is preferred. Experience with environmental monitoring in conjunction with land surveying activities is beneficial. Prior experience supporting infrastructure projects in transportation, environmental, facilities, or resiliency sectors is an advantage. Interest in expanding skills across disciplines, including technical, project management, or leadership-focused career paths. Strong collaboration and communication skills, with a willingness to learn from and work alongside experienced technical leaders and subject-matter experts. Work Environment The role is part of a survey team of more than 30 professionals, primarily supporting large infrastructure survey projects in the New York City area, including work for public agencies in transportation, schools, airports, and roadway projects. Typical hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Initial training takes place in the office, with the opportunity to transition into a hybrid work arrangement after training. The environment emphasizes collaboration, mentorship, and professional development, with clear pathways for advancement and opportunities to work on high-impact public and private projects. Work may involve time in the office using survey and monitoring software, as well as time in the field around active construction and infrastructure sites, following all applicable safety procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Forest Hills, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $62000.00 - $80000.00/yr.
