A Surveying or Mapping Technician works with surveyors and cartographers to gather data and create maps. Visits sites and records survey measurements and descriptive data. Selects data needed to create maps, including photos, aerial photos and satellite information, and helps produce and update maps that show boundaries or topographical information.
Prepare test hole reports and compare field results with previous designation efforts Draft base maps from field notes, photos, sketches, survey data, and utility records. Prepare and update 2D utility plans for water, gas, electric, telecom, storm, and sanitary systems. Compile DGN/DWG files, PDF exhibits, reports, photos, and attribute data. Maintain company and client layer standards, file organization, and naming conventions. Perform quality checks for missing, duplicated, or misaligned linework and features. Coordinate with field crews to resolve data gaps, conflicts, and clarifications. Import and process raw survey data from total stations, GPS, and utility locating equipment. Learn and apply ASCE 38-02 and
ASCE 38-22.

Requirements): 1-3 years of experience in CADD, survey drafting, utility mapping, or a related support role. Working Knowledge in AutoCAD, Carlson Survey, and Open Roads Designer. Basic understanding of coordinate geometry and survey workflows. Ability to interpret utility markings, survey codes, field sketches, and attribute data. Strong attention to detail, organization, and technical problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous SUE or utility mapping experience. Familiarity with MicroStation V8i or OpenRoads Designer. Experience with test hole reporting, GIS, or survey databases.
