What they do

A Surveyor measures the surface of the Earth and collects data used to make maps, set boundaries, and determine the shape and contour of sections of land. Uses global positioning system (GPS) and global information system (GIS) technology to make measurements. May specialize in measurements to determine airspace boundaries; may conduct marine or hydrographic surveys to measure bodies of water and determine shorelines and water flow and depth.

You must have experience, either leading a crew in all types of surveys, including ALTA, Boundary, Topographic and Construction Staking or have experience assisting a Survey Party Chief. You must also possess a valid California Driver's License in good standing. LSIT or California PLS License a plus. Those with Boundary Analysis, CAD and office experience will be highly considered. You must:
Be familiar with boundary surveys, ALTA and construction staking. Have a minimum of three years of experience in the field leading a crew or assisting a party chief in all types of surveys. Have familiarity with Trimble Robotic Total Station and Leica GPS Equipment. Possess excellent communication skills. Be experienced in reading engineering plans and survey maps, or have desire to learn how to read plans and maps. Have experience recovering boundary monuments, performing boundary surveys, collecting topographic data and performing construction staking or have experience supporting a party chief with this. Be proficient in processing field data, keeping field notes, preparing sketches, or be open to learning from a crew chief. Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D a plus. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
