Electronic (Using your CalCareer Account) Job Description and Duties This Transportation Surveyor (TS) position is the entry, first working, or journey level of professional surveying office work at Caltrans. Under the supervision and direction of a Senior Transportation Surveyor, the TS in the Right of Way (R/W) Engineering branch works mainly in an office setting performing a wide variety of office surveys tasks including, but not limited to the following: researching records; performing complex survey calculations; preparing various R/W and survey maps; preparing legal descriptions and deeds; providing information to the public; reducing and analyzing field data; occasionally functioning as a member of a field crew and performing other survey related work as required. The TS Range D, is in "responsible charge" of their work as defined in the Land Surveyor's Act, and may be called upon to act as a lead person in "responsible charge" of the technical work of other rank and file employees. As a Mapfiles Lead worker, the TS will be responsible for managing the mapfiles District 11 Intranet, updating District 11 right of way maps, archiving projects, adding data to the parcel fabric in District 11 Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and providing information to the public.
