Job Description

Survey Technician / Survey Crew Chief Position Overview A growing land surveying and engineering firm is seeking an experienced Survey Technician / Survey Crew Chief with 3+ years of professional land surveying experience to support a variety of active projects. This position involves a mix of fieldwork and office coordination, working closely with survey crews, engineers, and project managers on residential, commercial, and construction-related projects. The ideal candidate has strong technical field experience, is comfortable leading or working as part of a survey crew, and is proficient in modern survey equipment and AutoCAD workflows. Key Responsibilities Field Survey Operations Conduct topographical surveys, boundary surveys, construction layout, ALTA/NSPS land title surveys, and staking Operate survey equipment including total stations, GPS units, and data collectors (Leica, Topcon, or similar) Lead or assist survey crews in daily field operations, ensuring accuracy and efficiency Perform construction layout and verification surveys to support active job sites Office & Technical Support Download and upload survey data into AutoCAD for drafting and plan production Assist with survey calculations, data management, and record keeping Research land records, deeds, plats, and right‑of‑way information Review field data for completeness and quality prior to submission Project Coordination Coordinate with engineers, survey managers, and project managers to support project schedules and deliverables Communicate field conditions, discrepancies, and progress updates to the project team Assist with preparing survey information for design and construction purposes Required Qualifications Experience 3+ years of professional land surveying experience Hands‑on experience conducting: Topographical surveys Boundary and property surveys
ALTA/NSPS
surveys Construction layout and staking Technical Skills Experience operating Leica, Topcon, or similar total station and GPS survey equipment Proficiency with AutoCAD for survey data processing and drafting Experience transferring survey data between field equipment and office software Additional Skills & Competencies Ability to work independently and as part of a survey crew Strong attention to detail and accuracy Comfortable working in outdoor field environments and on active construction sites Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines Clear communication skills when working with engineers, project managers, and construction teams Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newington, CT. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
