Subsurface Utility Engineering (S.U.E.) Crew Chief GeoPoint is a land surveying company with multiple locations, specializing in land development, geomatics, geospatial mapping, commercial surveys, and subsurface utility engineering.Summary/Objective:
The Subsurface Utility Engineering (S.U.E.) Crew Chief assumes a foundational role within Subsurface Utility Engineering, contributing to essential tasks while gradually building expertise and leadership. This position involves the adept use of geophysical instruments, collaboration with utility owners, and the preparation of detailed S.U.E. reports. Basic proficiency and understanding in GIS data collection, utility mapping, and equipment setup are important, as this role marks the initial step in the hierarchy. The Crew Chief is also responsible for fostering a positive working environment and effective communication.Essential Job Functions:
Utilize electro-magnetic locating equipment, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and other methods for accurate utility location. Display basic proficiency and understanding in GIS data collection, utility mapping, and equipment setup. Operate a vacuum truck and associated equipment safely to efficiently uncover buried utilities. Ensure maintenance and functionality of S.U.E. equipment, including calibration and minor repairs. Maintain meticulous records of individual S.U.E. projects, encompassing Test Hole Forms, descriptive photos, and field sketches. Interpret roadway and utility plans, as well as utility record drawings with attention to detail. Exhibit knowledge and understanding of Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) standards, adhering to them when placing road signs and cones when necessary. Foster effective communication as a liaison between the team and management. Provide guidance and support to junior S.U.E. technicians in S.U.E. principles, practices, and equipment usage. Implement safety procedures, including personal protective equipment (PPE) used by all crew members, adherence to traffic laws, and responsible work practices. Utilize a solid understanding of S.U.E.-related duties and responsibilities, embracing a leadership role in overseeing and supervising S.U.E. projects. Successfully complete tasks from start to finish by employing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Promote and maintain a positive working environment, encouraging collaboration and excellence.Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in land surveying or a related field is preferred. Knowledge of surveying principles and familiarity with survey instruments and equipment. Physical ability to carry heavy equipment and work in various outdoor conditions. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data collection. Good communication and teamwork skills. Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Ability to identify types of trees and utility lines.Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Work requires using a machete, shovel and sledgehammer or other appropriate tools. Lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. over rough terrain may be required. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate various pieces of field equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms, speak, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and smell. Able to get in and out of vehicle multiple times a day. Drive 30 to 200 miles daily. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Due to the outdoor environments, there is a potential exposure to natural hazards. It is required to work outside in all types of weather conditions, possibly for extended periods of time. The terrain may be rough, steep, wet, or swampy. Vegetation may be dense, and insects, snakes or animals may be encountered. Desk/Workstation may be located in a confined area. Able to work overtime and some weekends. Able to work well in a team environment as well as being self-motivated and driven.Travel:
Some travel may be required.Schedule:
Must be able to start the workday promptly @ 6:30 AM and be available until 6:00 PM if required.Availability:
Able to work 40-65 hours per week, including evenings and weekends if required.Job Type:
