Position Summary We are seeking an experienced technical professional prepared to advance into our multi-discipline Engineering Tech Lead role to work from either of our offices - Bradley, IL and Manhattan, IL. This role includes performing surveying, design drafting, and construction observation and inspection. As an Engineering Tech Lead, you will perform increasingly independent field and office assignments, communicate effectively with contractors and the public, and receive and apply direction from project leads. As an Engineering Tech Lead, you will contribute to infrastructure projects that strengthen communities, support municipal and utility services, and serve residential, commercial, and industrial development. Key Responsibilities

• Perform surveying assignments, operate equipment, and verify field data with limited supervision.
• Collect, organize, process, and check survey data for mapping, plats, construction staking, and engineering design.
• Prepare and revise survey plats, base maps, construction drawings, and exhibits using CAD software.
• Perform technical design tasks, including topographic surfaces, contours, profiles, details, quantity calculations, and documentation.
• Prepare design solutions for project components such as storm sewer sizing, stormwater detention, sanitary sewer profiles, and proposed final grades.
• Perform construction observation and inspection activities, including measurements, photographs, testing coordination, daily reports, and progress documentation for complex projects.
• Communicate professionally with contractors, utility representatives, municipal staff, property owners, and members of the public.
• Receive, understand, and act on direction from project leads while identifying issues that require escalation or additional review.
• Maintain organized project files, records, field notes, inspection reports, and design documentation per company standards.
• Complete routine and moderately complex technical assignments independently while seeking guidance on advanced engineering, surveying, or construction issues. Qualifications
• Associate Degree in Drafting, Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or related field.
• Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in any combination of surveying, design drafting, and construction observation and inspection.
• Demonstrated background in any combination of surveying, design drafting, construction observation and inspection.
• Proficiency using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar software.
• Ability to design technical solutions for project components such as storm sewer sizing, sanitary sewer profiles, and proposed final grades.
• Ability to write concise notes about observed conditions in the field and report measurements.
• Ability to communicate clearly with contractors and the public and to receive, understand, and follow direction from project leads.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable record.
• Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and traverse uneven terrain for extended periods. Preferred Certifications, Skills, and Attributes
• Surveying, construction testing, USDA erosion control, or related certifications.
• Experience processing survey data, preparing survey deliverables, and supporting construction staking or field layout.
• Understanding construction plans, utility infrastructure, municipal projects, construction inspection requirements, and field reporting expectations.
• Experience preparing clear construction observation notes, inspection records, and technical reports.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple assignments.
• Professional verbal communication skills.
