Full Job Description Description:
The Survey Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all surveying operations to support engineering, construction, land development, and infrastructure projects. This role manages field and office survey staff, ensures the accuracy and quality of survey data, maintains compliance with industry standards and regulations, and works closely with project managers, engineers, clients, and regulatory agencies to deliver projects on time and within budget.
Responsibilities include:
Manage and oversee all field and office surveying activities. Plan, schedule, and coordinate survey projects to meet budget and timeline requirements. Review survey data, plats, maps, legal descriptions, and deliverables for accuracy and quality. Supervise, mentor, and develop survey staff, including field crews and technicians. Collaborate with clients, engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies to support project success. Ensure compliance with surveying standards, regulations, and company safety policies. Support proposal development, project budgeting, and resource planning. Implement best practices, technology improvements, and quality control procedures.
Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related field preferred.
Experience:
7+ years of progressive surveying experience. 3+ years of management or supervisory experience. Experience managing multiple survey projects and teams.
Certifications:
Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license preferred or required, depending on jurisdiction. Additional certifications related to surveying technology, GIS, UAV/drone operations, or project management are a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to occasionally work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions. Ability to travel to project sites as needed. Ability to lift and carry survey equipment when required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong understanding of land surveying principles, methods, and regulations. Proficiency with surveying equipment, including GPS/GNSS, robotic total stations, scanners, and UAV technologies. Experience with surveying and CAD software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Carlson Survey, Trimble Business Center, or equivalent. Strong project management, budgeting, and scheduling skills. Excellent leadership, communication, and client relationship management abilities. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to interpret legal descriptions, deeds, plats, and construction plans.
