Full Job Description Position Overview:
The Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) is responsible for managing and performing all aspects of land surveying, including boundary, topographic, construction, and control surveys. This role ensures accurate data collection, analysis, and mapping, while complying with applicable laws, standards, and client requirements. The PLS supervises survey crews, reviews survey calculations, prepares legal descriptions, and seals survey documents.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct boundary, ALTA/NSPS, topographic, right-of-way, and construction layout surveys. Research property records, deeds, plats, and other legal documents to determine land boundaries. Prepare and certify plats, maps, legal descriptions, and other survey documents. Operate and oversee the use of GPS, robotic total stations, and data collectors. Manage and mentor survey field crews and CAD technicians. Review and approve survey calculations and deliverables. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal surveying laws and standards of practice. Coordinate with engineers, architects, contractors, and government agencies. Provide expert testimony or consultation on boundary disputes when required. Maintain professional licensure and continuing education.
Qualifications:
Licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in the state of Indiana and Michigan (or ability to obtain within 6 months). Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred. 5+ years of progressive land surveying experience. Proficiency in Carlson, AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, and survey processing software . Strong knowledge of GPS, total stations, and conventional survey methods. Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.
