Southeast & Mid-Atlantic | Project-Based Travel Lead Survey Operations Where the Work Happens Gregory Construction is seeking an experienced Lead Surveyor to lead and support survey operations across our heavy civil and mission-critical construction projects . This is a senior, hands-on survey position for someone who understands both survey technology and heavy civil construction . We need a leader who knows how grading, mass earthwork, underground utilities, excavation, concrete, structures, and site development come together in the field—and how accurate survey operations keep those projects moving. The Lead Surveyor will provide technical leadership, establish consistent survey practices, support field teams, and help develop our survey personnel across multiple projects. Frequent project-to-project travel is required. What You'll Do Lead and support survey operations across active heavy civil and mission-critical projects . Plan survey workflows, layout sequencing, and field priorities based on project schedules and production needs. Establish standards for survey accuracy, quality control, documentation, and field procedures. Perform and verify complex layout, staking, elevations, control, and as-built surveys. Provide survey leadership for mass grading, earthwork, wet and dry utilities, excavation, concrete, structures, paving, and site development . Establish, maintain, and troubleshoot survey control networks and project benchmarks. Operate and support Trimble S7 Total Stations, TSC7 Controllers, Trimble Access, and Topcon GPS systems . Use Trimble Business Center (TBC) to manage and support construction survey data and field operations. Review design plans, alignments, elevations, coordinate systems, and construction data before field execution. Identify discrepancies between design information and field conditions and work with project teams to resolve them. Coordinate closely with project managers, superintendents, engineers, and field leadership to keep survey activities aligned with construction schedules. Troubleshoot complex survey, equipment, control, and layout issues. Train, mentor, and provide technical support to Party Chiefs, Survey Techs, and other field personnel . Help drive consistent survey processes and best practices from project to project. Travel regularly between Gregory Construction jobsites based on project needs. What We're Looking For We're looking for an experienced survey professional who has spent significant time in heavy civil construction and understands how survey operations directly impact field production. Required Qualifications 7+ years of progressive construction surveying experience , with a strong heavy civil background. Demonstrated experience leading or providing technical oversight of survey operations. Strong field experience with mass grading, earthwork, excavation, underground utilities, concrete, structural layout, paving, and/or site development . Advanced proficiency with Trimble Business Center (TBC) . Strong experience with total stations, GPS equipment, construction layout, and survey control. Ability to establish, maintain, verify, and troubleshoot survey control networks. Strong ability to interpret complex construction plans, alignments, elevations, coordinate systems, and design data. Ability to independently troubleshoot field and technical survey issues. Experience training, mentoring, or providing technical direction to survey personnel. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with project management and field leadership. Valid driver's license. Ability and willingness to travel regularly between project sites. Heavy Civil Experience Is Important We're especially interested in survey leaders who understand the type of construction Gregory performs . A strong candidate will have experience surveying several of the following: Heavy civil construction Mass excavation, earthwork, and grading Wet and dry underground utilities Storm, sanitary, and water systems Underground electrical and communications infrastructure Excavation and trenching Concrete and structural construction Large-scale site development Roadway and paving operations Mission-critical/data center sitework Gregory Construction specializes in civil, industrial, and mission-critical construction, so experience working in comparable construction environments is particularly valuable.
