Outdoor Field Work & Construction Sites About Us We are a professional Civil Engineering and Surveying firm specializing in land surveying, aerial (drone) surveying, land planning, site design, permitting, and development support services throughout the Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire region. Our team works closely with developers, contractors, municipalities, and property owners to deliver accurate, reliable, and innovative surveying solutions for a wide range of residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal projects. We are seeking an experienced Land Survey Crew Chief to lead field survey operations and support the successful completion of construction layout, boundary, topographic, utility, and mapping projects. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated survey professional who enjoys working outdoors, leading field crews, and utilizing advanced survey technology. Position Summary The Land Survey Crew Chief is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing field surveying activities while ensuring the highest standards of accuracy, safety, and efficiency. This individual will oversee survey crew operations, operate advanced survey equipment, collect and document field data, and communicate effectively with project managers, contractors, and clients. The ideal candidate is a highly organized survey professional with strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to make real-time field decisions while working independently and as part of a collaborative team. Key Responsibilities Survey Operations & Field Data Collection Lead and perform construction layout surveys for commercial, municipal, and private development projects. Conduct boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, utility, deformation monitoring, and existing conditions surveys. Perform stakeout services for site development and construction projects. Collect accurate field measurements and survey data using modern survey instruments and software. Verify survey control points and ensure data integrity throughout project execution. Establish survey benchmarks and coordinate systems as required. Survey Equipment Related surveying technologies and field software Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs when necessary. Ensure all survey instruments are properly calibrated and maintained. Leadership & Crew Management Lead and supervise field survey personnel and instrument operators. Assign daily work activities and monitor crew productivity. Provide guidance and training to junior survey team members. Promote teamwork, accountability, and professional development. Ensure projects are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. Documentation & Reporting Maintain detailed, organized, and accurate field notes. Record measurements, observations, sketches, and survey calculations. Verify completeness and accuracy of collected data before submission. Prepare daily field reports and communicate project progress to management. Assist office staff with survey data processing when needed. Communication & Coordination Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients. Coordinate field activities with construction personnel and project stakeholders. Communicate project requirements, site conditions, and schedule updates effectively. Resolve field-related issues and provide practical solutions. Safety & Compliance Follow all company safety policies and industry regulations. Conduct work in compliance with applicable surveying standards and construction site requirements. Maintain safe operation of vehicles, tools, and equipment. Identify and mitigate potential jobsite hazards. Promote a culture of safety and professionalism. Required Qualifications Minimum 5 years of land surveying field experience . Strong experience with construction layout and stakeout projects . Proficiency operating robotic total stations, GPS equipment, and survey data collectors. Strong understanding of survey terminology, procedures, and best practices.
Ability to read and interpret:
Construction drawings Site plans Blueprints Engineering specifications Excellent leadership and crew management skills. Strong verbal and written communication abilities. Proven problem-solving and decision-making capabilities. Valid Massachusetts Driver's License. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience serving as a Survey Crew Chief. Experience with commercial and municipal construction projects. Familiarity with CAD software and office survey processing workflows. Knowledge of drone surveying technologies and aerial mapping. Experience with
ALTA/NSPS
Land Title Surveys. Surveying certifications or pursuit of professional licensure is a plus. Physical Requirements Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions year-round. Ability to walk long distances across uneven terrain. Ability to carry and transport survey equipment. Ability to drive stakes and perform physically demanding field tasks. Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and climb as necessary. Ability to work on active construction sites safely and effectively. Schedule Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM Some overtime or adjusted schedules may be required based on project demands and weather conditions.
