  • Civil MN, United States Be the First to Apply Job Description Senior Surveyor SUMMARY Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Senior Surveyor who is responsible for coordination and supervision of project-based survey/layout requirements.
You will be r esponsible for executing and coordinating project-based survey activities across assigned projects, including preconstruction and design phase survey work, site setup and calibration, machine control support, drone operations, documentation, and daily survey coordination. Serves as an on-site survey resource, partnering with site leadership, Lead Surveyors, and project teams to support safe, accurate, and efficient survey execution aligned with project scope, schedule, and design intent
RESPONSIBILITIES
Support survey execution across multiple projects and provide survey coverage when project-specific resources are unavailable, while coordinating workload and priorities with site leadership and survey leadership. Execute preconstruction and design phase survey activities planned by survey leadership, including drone flights, existing conditions data collection, site setup, calibration, control point coordination, and coordinate system validation. Support project startup activities including equipment coordination, control point verification, site calibration, and communication of survey-related needs with project teams. Coordinate daily survey activities leading crews of up to 10 surveyors. Must have a thorough understanding of project scope, attend daily project meetings, and support field operations through accurate survey execution. Layout of site features including pads, access roads, utility structures, culverts, etc. Ensure layout and staking is in line with established best practices. Collaborate with project teams, contractors, trade partners, and field personnel to support accurate layout and construction execution consistent with design intent. Support machine control operations, including GPS setup, design uploads, WorksManager setup, equipment tracking, general troubleshooting, and coordination of issue resolution with Lead Surveyors when needed. Support utility installation activities through accurately staking offsets, pipe alignments, and structure layout.

Accurately capture installed utilities through timely as-builts of pipe rim, invert, flared end, top of pipe, utility structures, etc. Ability to read project plans, specifically those related to utility installation Serve as a primary drone resource through flight operations, Propeller project site creation, target layout, and data processing Participate in survey group meetings, training opportunities, mentorship sessions, and other initiatives that support development of survey capabilities and best practices. Promote safety, quality, teamwork, and professional customer service consistent with Mortenson's values and policies in all stakeholder interactions. Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels. All other duties as assigned. Ability to travel up to 100%
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate or bachelor's degree in related/applicable field or equivalent experience as a surveyor within the construction industry. Experience in large scale utility installation Minimum five years of previous survey experience. Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license. Current driver's license. Computer skills in Bentley Inroads, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center or equivalent survey software Ability to operate equipment including but not limited to total station, GPS, data collector, etc. Computer skills in Bentley Inroads, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center or equivalent survey software Ability to operate equipment including but not limited to total station, GPS, data collector, etc.

  • $98,500 MAX. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL
  • 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR
  • 10%, Washington, D.C.
  • 12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan. #LI
