Job Description

The Public Works Department is seeking an Engineering Aide II to support land surveying and engineering activities that are critical to the successful delivery of public infrastructure projects. Working as part of a survey crew, you will assist with field data collection, construction staking, survey equipment operation, and project documentation to help deliver safe and reliable public infrastructure. Here's what you can expect to do as an Engineering Aide II - Land Surveying Instrument Person Operate survey equipment, including total stations, GNSS/GPS receivers, digital levels, and data collectors under the direction of a Survey Crew Chief. Collect, record, and verify field data for boundary, topographic, construction, utility, and right-of-way surveys. Perform construction staking, grade staking, and as-built surveys for public infrastructure projects. Locate and mark property corners, monuments, utility features, and right-of-way boundaries, and set survey markers (monuments, hubs, stakes, nails) as directed. Maintain, calibrate, and prepare survey equipment, vehicles, and field supplies to support daily operations. Position:
All vacancies are 100% onsite working Monday - Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the majority of work performed in the field requiring driving to different sites.

Assessment:
Qualifications Rating The Qualifications Rating is an assessment of your completed application and answers to the Supplemental Questionnaire. Be as specific and detailed as possible in completing your application and questionnaire. You must submit your completed application and supplemental questionnaire by the application deadline.
Promotion Only Job Posting:
This posting is open to current City of Saint Paul employees who meet the Civil Service promotion rule, which includes two years certified service. The promotion eligible list is ranked. Those who pass the assessment will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months.
Promotion Final Selection Process:
You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire based on civil service rules. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.
