Job Summary:
The Trimble Operator is a field-based role responsible for performing construction layout using Trimble positioning technology on active jobsites. This position supports accurate installation by translating drawings and models into precise field layout, helping reduce rework and improve production efficiency. Working closely with foremen, superintendents, and project teams, the Trimble Operator ensures layout is completed safely, accurately, and in alignment with current project documents.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Perform daily field layout using Trimble total stations, robotic instruments, and related positioning equipment. Assist in establishing control points, benchmarks, and reference systems on active jobsites. Interpret construction drawings, models, and specifications to complete accurate field layout. Coordinate directly with foremen and project teams to support installation sequencing and jobsite needs. Identify and report discrepancies between drawings, models, and actual field conditions. Collect field verification and as-built data as required. Maintain accuracy and organization of layout files and field documentation. Support project schedules and production goals through timely layout completion. Maintain and care for Trimble equipment, including calibration, storage, and basic troubleshooting. Follow all jobsite safety policies and procedures. Assist field crews with layout interpretation as needed. Communicate layout updates, changes, and issues clearly to project leadership.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Working knowledge of construction layout and jobsite workflows. Ability to operate Trimble layout equipment and related software. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and models. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Practical communication skills with field leadership and crews. Ability to problem-solve in active jobsite environments. Ability to work independently while taking direction from project leadership. Basic understanding of construction tolerances and coordination requirements.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree in Drafting, Construction Technology, or related field preferred but not required. One to three years of hands-on experience performing construction layout or Trimble field operations preferred. Previous experience working on active construction jobsites required.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work full-time on active construction sites in varying weather conditions. Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and climbing on uneven terrain. Ability to lift, carry, and set up equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to safely access all areas of construction sites.
