This is a high-impact leadership role with full responsibility over team performance, operational execution, and strategic growth, ideal for someone who wants to take ownership of an established practice and build on a strong regional presence. This individual will oversee an existing survey team, manage key client relationships, and play a central role in expanding the firm's footprint across municipal and transportation markets.

The survey team collaborates closely with engineering and construction groups, supporting roadway, utility, and infrastructure development initiatives. The group includes multiple field crews supported by in-office coordinators and technical staff, creating a well-balanced operation between fieldwork, processing, and deliverables. Key Responsibilities Lead the surveying group with full responsibility for operations, performance, and growth Oversee multiple active projects, ensuring delivery aligns with scope, schedule, and budget Drive business development efforts, expanding existing client relationships and identifying new opportunities Serve as a senior point of contact for key clients, particularly within municipal and public agencies Manage departmental financials, including budgeting, forecasting, and utilization Hire, mentor, and develop staff, including field crews and office personnel Establish staffing plans and support long-term team growth and succession planning Ensure QA/QC standards across all survey data, mapping, and deliverables Collaborate closely with engineering and multidisciplinary teams on project execution Improve workflows, processes, and efficiency across the survey group Support proposals, presentations, and overall strategic initiatives Technical Expertise Boundary, topographic, and ALTA/NSPS
surveys Right-of-way and transportation-related surveying Construction staking and as-built surveys Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) coordination (preferred) Legal descriptions, plats, and mapping deliverables Working knowledge of local and state surveying regulations Experience with modern survey technology (GPS, robotic total stations, LiDAR, UAV/aerial mapping) Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation Qualifications Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license required (North Carolina or ability to obtain) 10-15+ years of experience in land surveying, including leadership responsibilities Proven experience managing teams, projects, and operational performance Background supporting municipal, DOT, or public-sector work Business development and client-facing experience strongly preferred Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Compensation & Benefits Compensation is competitive and includes a strong base salary plus performance-based incentives.
