The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking a Professional Land Surveyor to perform, oversee, and review boundary surveys for the acquisition of right of way along the highways in Nebraska. The salary range for this position is $29.418 - $43.366/hr. The pay rate may be commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints if approved. Conduct, perform, supervise, review and approve boundary surveys for the acquisition of right of way along the highways in Nebraska. Prepare plats, maps, corner ties and field notes of all required surveys to be made of record in the State Surveyor's office. Research abstract records, recorded surveys, deeds and all other relevant data required to accumulate information to perform the survey. Search for existing land monuments which can be quite labor intensive and be performed in all types of weather conditions year-round. Locate, perpetuate, restore and re-establish property monuments as necessary to complete the survey including original government corners which may require cooperation with the appropriate County Surveyor. Supervise survey crews to perform related work as required in the supervisor's absence. Apply survey law in analyzing and detecting errors in legal descriptions and/or surveys and make necessary corrections. Answer survey related questions from people within the Department and from the private sector as well as private, county and federal surveyors. Train survey technicians in the use of survey equipment and in the interpretation of survey computed data. Schedule survey crew members work assignments. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications:
Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor as defined by the Nebraska Board of Examiners for Land Surveyors is required. Applicants must be registered at the time of application or be able to obtain such a license within 90 days of employment. The type and amount of education and experience needed are cited in Nebraska State Statutes 81-8,117, and outlined in the following Legal Requirements section. He or she has successfully passed an examination designed to determine his or her proficiency and qualification to engage in the practice of land surveying. No applicant shall be entitled to take such examination until he or she shows the necessary practical experience in land surveying work; and He or she has not less than six years of surveying experience of which five years must be as defined in subdivision (4) of section 81-8,109, and three of such five years must have been in a responsible position as a subordinate to a licensed land surveyor, OR has graduated, after a course of not less than four years in surveying, engineering, or other approved curriculum, with proportionate credit for lesser time, from a school or college approved by the examining board as of satisfactory standing and has an additional two years of practice in a responsible position. Preferred Qualifications:
Professional Land Surveyor in the State of Nebraska. Experience in or ability to run a Trimble R10 GPS unit or equivalent. Experience in or ability to download the field data into Trimble Business Center software for bearing and distances. Experience in or ability to draft in Bentley OpenRoads. Other:
Must have a valid Nebraska driver's license or the ability to provide authorized independent transportation. Overnight travel is required. Regular and reliable attendance is also required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the rectangular boundary system. Skills in writing and interpreting legal descriptions. Ability to research and interpret survey records; draft survey plats using CAD; compute survey information for the determination of bearings and distances as well as coordinate values in the field and office; prepare and process final survey information; determine accuracy of the survey; download, process and generate coordinates from GPS data.
